About me

Hello, I’m Caroline and I’d like to help you if I can.
Maybe you’re reading this page and at this time in your life everything just feels too much. You might be experiencing thoughts that never switch off, a constant pressure to get everything right or feeling anxious but never understanding why. Maybe you’ve been battling for a while now trying to  distract from how you really feel but that doesn’t seem to be working anymore and you are now feeling overwhelmed with sadness, anger and hopelessness, unable to share this with those close to you.
Struggling with your mental health can often leave you feeling exhausted, isolated, frightened and worrying all the time, not fully understanding what’s going on. Whatever it is you’re going through I want you to know I recognise the need and importance of having a safe understanding place to talk through what’s going on for you. I am here to listen to you, to help you work through and make sense of what you’re feeling inside. I believe when given this space it can enable you to cope better, to feel calmer and to better manage everyday life, helping you to find hope again and a way forward and recognise that even in the depths of your distress you’re not alone.

I just want to share a little bit about me, I’m a wife and a mother to 3 adult children and my own struggles led me to counselling some time ago which sparked within me a desire to help others. I love working with people and have supported those from different backgrounds. I’m passionate about what I do and my counselling room is a warm safe space where you will be listened to and accepted.

I understand that reaching out to a counsellor isn't easy and I would like to put your mind at ease and reassure you that you don't have to share any more than you feel you are able to, I am here to help support you and offer you a safe reflective space where you can start to make sense of how you are feeling, it’s about meeting you where you’re at with no pressure from me.

I trained as an Integrative Counsellor to enable me to bring together different elements of therapies which will help you to work through your specific struggles some of these include, psychodynamic therapy that looks into childhood, CBT to help you understand your thinking and behaviour. If you’ve experienced trauma in your life you may find it difficult to put into words how you feel, sometimes your emotions can become blocked as a form of protection, using creative interventions can be really helpful in helping you connect with those feelings. I like to offer pictures and cards, nesting dolls and puppets, painting and sandtray if it’s something you’d like to work with. I am still able use creative interventions with online work as I have apps and tools to use specifically for my online sessions.
I believe that counselling is a relationship between two people where we work together to achieve change, therefore it’s important to me that the counselling I offer you is helpful and effective, you will be placed at the centre of my service ensuring your mental and emotional wellbeing is priority in any of the work we do.

I work with adults offering face-to-face sessions from my comfortable room in Royston, as well as sessions online for those further afield. I offer both long and short term counselling. Sessions can vary on days and times and do not have to be weekly, I understand that some people work shifts and have other commitments.

I have experience supporting clients struggling with anxiety, panic attacks, low self-esteem, grief, anger, depression, burnout, intrusive thoughts, suicide bereavement, relationship issues, navigating difficult family dynamics, affairs & betrayal.  I often work with those experiencing internal conflicts, fear of failing, fear of disappointing others and the fear of not belonging or not being accepted.

I have completed specialist training around miscarriage and infant loss, SIDS, pregnancy after baby loss and infertility. I am on the Foundation of Infant Loss accredited register.

I have experience working with dissociation, D.I.D. domestic abuse, coercive control and sexual abuse. I volunteered for a charity supporting those who had experienced organised abuse and having very complex and traumatic childhoods.

I also have experience working with suicide ideation, I’m trained in suicide prevention and bring over eight years experience working with those battling suicidal thoughts and hopelessness, many being in crisis.

I find a large part of my work is supporting those with a history of trauma in childhood, including sexual abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, and spiritual abuse.

Maybe for you childhood didn’t provide all the things you needed and your experiences as a child and young adult are still affecting you today.
Childhood trauma that is not resolved often leaves invisible wounds that leak into adulthood. Maybe you’re experiencing feelings of fear, hypervigilence and anxiety but not quite understanding why, negative symptoms can start to affect you but you may not connect them to the trauma from your past right away.

”There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you” Maya Angelou
