About me

Needing to unburden? Going through a time of crisis or major change? Or maybe sense a lack of direction in life? It can be a huge relief to express how we are feeling and the issues with which we are struggling, knowing that we are not being judged but are welcomed and accepted as we are. I offer a safe, confidential space to help you explore your current situation. As an Integrative counsellor, I can draw upon the main counselling approaches where they might be relevant to you, helping you to understand yourself, your relationships, and your current situation better.

It is understandable that speaking to a counsellor whom you have never met before may feel very difficult. Maybe you feel that you don't know where to start. Perhaps you have never been able to share before what is troubling you and feel trapped in your thoughts and difficult feelings.  We will work gently at your own pace and even after one session you may feel relief at being able to start to speak and hear your concerns expressed aloud. From our first session I hope that you will feel heard and affirmed and start to gain a  sense of hope and perspective.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am an accredited member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and a registered member of the A.C. C (Association of Christian Counsellors).

I have a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and also hold a National Counselling Society Certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling.

Originally, I trained as a Special Needs teacher but after a change of career I undertook four years counselling training.

I then worked as a counsellor for a local counselling service before going into private practice in Sep.21.

I worked for seven years for the NHS as a chaplaincy volunteer and bank chaplain at my local hospital, and also as a counsellor on a COVID 19 Staff Support Line.

My working life and experience in a variety of settings has given me an understanding of, and empathy for, people from a wide range of backgrounds.

Recognising the role that trauma plays in the lives of many who seek therapy I have completed a Complex Trauma Certification Training Course, and hold a Professional Level 2 Certificate (CCTP-11). I have also undertaken training courses from trauma specialist, Carolyn Spring, on subjects such as Trauma and The Body, Working With Shame, Working With Relational Trauma, Working with Dissociative Identity Disorder.

I am a Licensed Lay Minister in the Church of England and I have a special interest in working with people who, sadly, have been hurt by church. I offer support in the areas of Spiritual Abuse and Religious Trauma, having completed a certification course.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

ACC
