About me
I’m Carey, a qualified person-centred counsellor offering counselling for adults (18+) who feel overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, or worn down from holding everything together for far too long. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the founder of Braver Days Therapy.
I often work with people who appear to be coping on the outside while struggling internally, those who feel drained, disconnected from themselves, or unsure how they reached this point. Many come to counselling feeling they have to stay strong for others, while quietly carrying anxiety, low mood, trauma, or relationship difficulties alone, often alongside low self-esteem.
My work is person-centred and trauma-informed, with a strong focus on emotional safety, trust, and working at a pace that feels manageable. Many people I work with tell me it’s the first space where they’ve felt able to slow down, breathe, and speak honestly without fear of being judged. Over time, clients often tell me they begin to notice small but meaningful changes, more clarity, coping better day to day, feeling less overwhelmed, and reconnecting with things that matter to them.
I understand that healing isn’t about revisiting everything at once, but about feeling safe enough to meet what’s present, gently and at your pace. You don’t need to know what to say or be “ready”, just willing to begin where you are.
I offer counselling sessions face-to-face in Kirkham and Thornton Cleveleys, as well as online and telephone sessions. I also provide a free 20-minute initial conversation, giving you the opportunity to ask questions and see whether counselling with me feels like the right next step.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and have developed my practice through a combination of clinical experience, previous professional roles, and ongoing supervision.
Alongside my private practice, I work as a sessional counsellor supporting survivors of adult & childhood sexual abuse, rape, and sexual assault. This experience has strengthened my ability to sit with complex emotional experiences and support people when feelings become overwhelming or too difficult to put into words.
I also have experience working with neurodivergent adults and aim to work flexibly and collaboratively, recognising and respecting each person’s individual way of experiencing, communicating, and making sense of the world.
Before training as a counsellor, I worked in education, supporting young people in care and previously practised as a nurse. These roles continue to inform my grounded, compassionate approach and my ability to work thoughtfully with vulnerability, distress, and long-held emotional patterns.
I am committed to ongoing professional development and keep my practice informed by training related to trauma, attachment, emotional regulation, neurodivergence, and evolving developments within the field of counselling. I engage in regular supervision and place strong importance on reflective practice to ensure my work remains ethical, responsive, and grounded.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
