About me
Hi, I’m Bethan, and through counselling I help young people and adults to understand themselves, learn how to cope with difficult situations and be authentic in who they are. We are all unique, so by tailoring the therapeutic process to suit the individual, I support clients throughout a process of change and help them find the answers within. This is why my sessions are integrative, to provide the best approach to suit the needs of each client.
I have developed a wealth of experience working with adults and young people in different settings, including over twenty years in the education sector as a teacher, so I understand a broad range of contexts.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a fully qualified therapist and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, but I also continue work as a teacher too, and actively engage in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for both disciplines. As such I maintain a wide range of qualifications including:
- Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy
- Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Drama)
- Trauma and Adverse Childhood Experience (ACEs) Recovery Training
- Autism Awareness Training
- Keeping Children Safe in Education (Safeguarding)
- Complex PTSD
- Sand Therapy
- BA Hons Drama
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information
Before we book our first session, I will arrange a telephone call with you that is free of charge. During this informal call, we will discuss what you need from me or what you would like to work on and I will explain how I work. This will help you decide whether I am the right therapist for you. In addition, if you have any questions you can email me before this call.
After this, we can book our first session where we will discuss the therapeutic contract.
Further information
I have a non-judgmental approach and before we book our first session, I will arrange a telephone call with you that is free of charge. During this informal call, we will discuss what you need from me or what you would like to work on, and I will explain more about how I work. This will help you decide whether I am the right therapist for you. In addition, if you have any questions, you can email me before or after the call.
After this, we can book our first session where we will discuss the therapeutic contract, and we’ll get started together.
I am passionate about supporting individuals who are looking to feel more like themselves. Through my experience as a teacher and therapist, I have developed specialist experience of working with low self-esteem issues, anxiety, depression and ADHD. These issues are often connected to feelings of shame, especially when we internalise critical thoughts, or battle with shame related to events from our present or past. If this is something you are experiencing, then it may be something I can help you to understand. I also possess extensive experience in supporting people to deal with loss, in its many forms, which can be the catalyst for many of the underlying issues within therapy. The loss of a relationship or family separation, good health, fulfillment, direction, aspirations or status, may trigger anxiety, loneliness, low mood or depression. Therapy is often a way of enabling you to ‘shine a light’ on issues that have caused or are causing instability and confusion, and I will work to help you do this.
