About me

Hello, I’m Ben. I am an Integrative Psychotherapist offering counselling for anxiety, grief, trauma, bereavement, stress, and emotional or relational difficulties for children, young people, and adults.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile. I understand that reaching out for therapy can take considerable courage, particularly when things may already feel overwhelming, uncertain, or emotionally heavy. Having also experienced therapy from the client’s perspective, I deeply value how important it is to feel safe, heard, and supported when taking that first step.

I offer a warm, confidential, and non-judgemental therapeutic space where you can speak freely and at your own pace. My aim is to help you feel safe enough to explore what is going on in your life without pressure, expectation, or judgement, and to begin making sense of your experiences in a supportive environment.

My clinical practice is integrative, meaning that I draw on Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Gestalt Therapy, and Transactional Analysis and other appropriate counselling modalities. This allows me to tailor therapy to you as an individual, rather than using a single fixed approach.

Alongside my private practice work, I have extensive experience as a Therapeutic Support Practitioner within a Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) school, as well as working as a school counsellor supporting children and young people with a range of emotional, behavioural, and psychological needs. This includes supporting emotional regulation and delivering psychoeducational interventions and activities to help develop emotional awareness, coping strategies, and self-understanding.

I also have experience working within a lived experience mental health organisation, supporting individuals with substance use difficulties and dual diagnosis presentations. In this role, I worked collaboratively within a multi-agency framework, liaising with services including the NHS, probation services, and community mental health teams, to provide joined-up and holistic support.

Clients often approach me for support with anxiety, low mood, stress, trauma, PTSD, bereavement (including pet loss), relationship difficulties, self-esteem issues, identity exploration, and life transitions. Therapy can offer a space to slow things down, reflect, and develop a clearer understanding of yourself and your experiences.

Alongside this, I support clients in developing emotional regulation, resilience, self-awareness, and healthier coping strategies, and may draw on positive psychology where helpful.

I have particular experience working with children and young people, and I am happy to work collaboratively with parents or carers where appropriate to support the therapeutic process.

I also offer inclusive and affirming therapy for LGBTQ+ clients, and I work sensitively with cross-cultural experiences, identity-related challenges, and trauma-informed care.

I am currently undertaking further training in working with individuals experiencing complex relational and personality-related difficulties, as part of my ongoing professional development.

If you feel I may be the right therapist for you, you are very welcome to get in touch. We can have an initial conversation about what you are looking for and whether working together feels comfortable and appropriate for you. If you are a parent or carer, you are also very welcome to contact me on behalf of your child or young person if you have any concerns or would like to discuss support.

Experience
My professional background includes counselling and therapeutic support work with children, young people, and adults, particularly within school and SEMH settings. I also have experience supporting individuals experiencing substance use difficulties and dual diagnosis presentations within a lived experience mental health organisation, working collaboratively alongside services including the NHS, probation services, and community mental health teams. I am also preparing to undertake further specialist training in supporting individuals experiencing complex relational and personality-related difficulties.

I value ongoing professional growth and keeping informed of emerging research, therapeutic approaches, and developments within counselling and psychotherapy. Alongside regular clinical supervision, I continue to engage in additional training and workshops to support thoughtful, ethical, and effective practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
