About me

Hello, I'm April, I am a very experienced and fully professionally qualified Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor, trained to work with Adults & Young People from age 12 years. (PVG checked from Disclosure Scotland to work safely with children and vulnerable adults). I offer one-to-one confidential talking therapy. I draw on a mix of therapeutic approaches and work in an integrative way to form a humanistic, relationally focused way of working, as the heart of my work is building a genuine, trusting empathic relationship. I see counselling as a partnership, we work together at your pace, focusing on what matters most to you. This could be a single session, a block of regular sessions, short term or long term work.

I have been counselling young people from age 10 years and adults for over 16 years within schools, agencies in the third sector and university settings. Prior to qualifying as a Professional Counsellor, I was a Volunteer Telephone Counsellor for children and also worked in the field of Mental Health Support for adults within the third sector for many years.

Counselling with me is professional yet relaxed and conversational. You don’t need to prepare anything or have the ‘right words’, just come as you are. My aim is to create a safe, confidential therapeutic space where you can talk openly, reflect, and find new ways towards change. I want my clients to feel heard and understood so that I can support them to understand themselves better and learn new ways of being and feeling differently.

My belief is that building a trusting relationship, based on empathy, non-judgement and feeling understood by your Counsellor is key to any therapeutic process and change.

I can offer face-to-face Counselling in Aberdeen City Centre, online via Teams, Zoom or by Telephone.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
