About me

Hello, my name is Anna, a BACP Registered Integrative Therapist. As well as offering private practice I have worked for an adults counselling service in Stockport for over 10 years so have experience of working with a wide range of presenting issues. I have also been involved with a local Young Person’s charity for the last 17 years, so have a great deal of experience working with family and young people’s issues (18+).

Originally, I trained as a scientist, I now find working with people much more rewarding than the microscope! I love working with clients, seeing how things can change and shift, it gives me courage that whatever we might face in life we have the capacity, if given the right conditions and support, to help ourselves.

Training, qualifications & experience

As an integrated practitioner I know that different people are helped by different things at different times. I trained in Person Centred Counselling and Integrative Counselling, and now I incorporate elements of Cognitive Behavioural, Creative, Psychodynamic and Trauma based therapeutic models amongst others into my practice. I aim to offer each client the approaches or techniques that are best suited to them and their current situation.

Experience:

I have extensive experience helping clients with a wide range of issues, including but not limited to:

Specialist Areas: Neurodiversity, ASD, Boarding school related issues, Menopause
Trauma & Abuse: Childhood trauma, physical and sexual abuse, emotional abuse, Adverse Childhood Events (ACE’s)
Young People: Bullying, study-related stress, emotional issues, self-esteem
Family & Relational Issues: Attachment disorders, family dynamics, divorce, separation, parenting, young carers
Mental Health: Anxiety, stress, depression, panic attacks, OCD, self-harm
Bereavement & Loss: Bereavement, complex grief, miscarriage, long-term ill health
Personal Development: Low self-confidence, identity issues, work-related stress, redundancy

I also work creatively, using tools to explore and process emotions in a more visual or hands-on manner, especially useful for individuals who find it challenging to express themselves with words.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

Our first session would take an hour and be an opportunity for us both to see if we could work together; for you to establish if I am somebody you would like to work with, and for me to establish if I have the correct skill set to meet your needs. We would discuss what you would like to achieve in therapy, what issues or changes you want to deal with, and how we might work together. There is also a small amount of paperwork we will complete: a necessity at the beginning of any therapeutic relationship.

Ongoing sessions last for 50 minutes during which we would agree future dates and times to meet: sessions can be scheduled weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

Please feel free to ring me for a chat if you are unsure what to expect from counselling, or if you have any questions. If I cannot answer straight away, please leave a message and I will call you back as soon as I can (GDPR regulations mean I cannot reply to missed calls if you don’t leave a message).

I aim to respond to all queries within two working days.
