About me
If you’re experiencing depression, anxiety, or other intense emotions then speaking to a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist may be beneficial to you. You may notice a feeling of dread at the day ahead or that you’re held back from achieving the things you want to in life. You may feel shy or nervous, notice changes in your body or struggle with sleep. You may be self-critical or notice difficulties with motivation or energy levels. You might have a phobia that you wish to work on or to lose weight. These are just some of the areas I can help you with.
About Me
My name is Andrew Kemp, I’m a fully qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, accredited with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).
From a young age I was interested in people and the way that the mind worked, I wanted to understand myself and others better. In time that developed into a desire to help other people understand themselves and improve the way that they are feeling and that desire to help people has only become stronger over time.
I aim to work in a way that helps the client to feel comfortable yet challenged. I speak in plain English and don’t overcomplicate things. It’s about finding the style and techniques that work for the individual and everyone is exactly that, individual.
I believe that the key to effective therapy is to have a strong, trusting relationship and for client and therapist to work together, as equals. I work hard to achieve that therapeutic relationship and find a style that works for the individual. I have a special interest in working with the psychology of sleep/insomnia, low self-esteem and anxiety disorders.
I understand that taking that first step to exploring and talking about your difficulties can be challenging but I hope that by taking this step, you can begin to see a path towards a happier future.
Benefits of CBT
CBT, short for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, is evidence based and the recommended form of treatment for depression, anxiety and other mood disorders. CBT works on the principal that our thoughts (or cognitions) affect the way that we feel and the things that we do. At Clear Mind CBT, we aim to help you develop a different way of thinking which has a positive effect on both emotions and responses, which in turn will help you to overcome your difficulties. CBT is short term form of therapy and aims to give you the tools to improve and maintain good mental health rather than relying on weekly sessions for long periods of time. CBT is structured and very much solution focused so you can expect to leave each session having learnt something new and with a clear plan of what you can do over the upcoming week to build on what we cover within the session and continue to improve how you're feeling.
How to get started
If you would like to discuss whether CBT may be helpful to you then please get in touch via the contact form and we can arrange a free consultation to discuss what you're experiencing and how CBT can help. If you decided you wanted to go ahead with CBT, we could book on our first appointment and then have regular appointments to suit you.
