About me

As a qualified therapist with over 21 years’ experience working within health and social care, I understand the complexities that make up the individual you.

I use a Humanistic approach, meaning I work collaboratively with you, the client being the expert on yourself – there is no hierarchy in the counselling room.

I aim to provide a safe and secure environment using three key elements – empathy, honesty while remaining non-judgmental.

I understand how complex some people are and I have a genuine willingness and curiosity to explore the unique way in which you process the experience of being you.

There may be therapy sessions with a serious tone, but I also make room for humour. I will walk hand in hand with you through each session and endeavour to help you to help yourself by communicating with you in a down to earth manner, using unpretentious language.

I recognise some of the issues you may struggle with overlap and cannot be pigeon-holed into a specific category. My practice has the flexibility and fluidity to take this into account.

Training, qualifications & experience

My qualification comes from graduating from a Clinical Diploma/BSc (Hons) Humanistic Counselling degree at the prestigious Metanoia Institute in London, W5. The three modalities that make up the Humanistic training are Person Centred (PC), Transactional Analysis (TA) and Gestalt. However, I can also incorporate the tools of CBT where appropriate.

This extensive training (and my subsequent experience) covered the following areas:

Addiction, Attachment Theory, Complex Grief, Trauma and the body’s reaction, Shame and Guilt, Anxiety and Depression, Personality Disorders, Transference / Counter Transference, Ethics, Race and Culture highlighting Intersectionality.

The BACP’s Ethical Framework and guidelines underpin my work thus ensuring your well-being is first and foremost throughout our sessions.

Underneath my therapeutic qualification is a human being with feelings and emotions. I have a wealth of personal experience which enhances my professional world. In the last 21 years, I have supported many people going through the most difficult times of their life including but not limited to:

Relationship issues

Shame and Guilt

Codependency

Trauma and the body's reaction to it.

Anxiety and/or depression

Grief and Loss through bereavement, divorce or a relationship breakdown

Age related cognition and/or mobility decline

Addiction and surviving life in recovery

The issues facing unpaid carers.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I know how daunting it can be to take the first steps in contacting a stranger for help. With this in mind, I offer a free 30-minute online or phone call consultation where I will ask some general questions. This will give us both an opportunity to assess if we can work together – to see if we are a good fit. If you decide you want to embark on your therapeutic journey with me, we can discuss availability in Farnham, Guildford, Godalming or Woking.
