About me

I am a registered psychotherapeutic counsellor working with adults and young people over 16. I work from my tranquil practice room at Chapter House, North Shields.

My approach is steady, compassionate and non-judgemental. I appreciate it can be difficult to make the decision to open up to a counsellor, but I will work alongside you in a spirit of mutual curiosity, helping you make sense of your experiences and move towards meaningful change. I tailor my approach to suit your individual needs, drawing from a range of therapeutic models and perspectives to support you in the most helpful way possible.

Through the therapeutic relationship we create, I will work with you to understand your concerns. Together we will explore what is going on for you, using a range of approaches. If you would like, these can include breathing and grounding work, creative interventions and psychoeducation.

Training, qualifications & experience

My qualifications reflect my years of experience working within the arts and education. In particular, my background in dance and music means I can add awareness of embodiment and sound to my cognitive appraisal of whatever issues you bring.

  • Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling (Northern Guild) 2025
  • MBACP (Member of the British Association of Counselling Practitioners) 2025
  • Post-graduate Certificate in Education (Goldsmiths', London) 1983
  • BA hons Performance Arts: First class. (Middlesex) 1979

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

For many years I have worked within education and my counselling experience has included work with teachers, parents and children, in school settings.  In addition to my in-depth training, I specialise in supporting new grandparents or parents as you adjust to your new roles.  Also those of you experiencing divorce or family tensions, or working in educational settings with the demands that can bring.

However, whatever your concerns, please be assured we will work collaboratively to explore what is going on for you and why that may be.  Why not text or email me to arrange a free 20 min phone call, so you can get a better idea of whether you feel I would be a good therapist for you?  I look forward to hearing from you.
