About me

For me, the individual client is at the heart of everything I do as a therapist; my wish is to create a safe space, and work in a meaningful and mindful way with every client, in a way that best works for you.

I began my therapist journey after spending the majority of my teens feeling alone. After an enlightening therapeutic journey, I finally felt both seen and understood by my therapist, and also able to see and understand myself. I wanted to help others experience this themselves; so I began an MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and I have been practicing as a therapist ever since - only becoming more and more passionate about what I do as time goes on!

Since practicing, I've seen what an isolating, overwhelming, and often lonely world we can live in, where more often than not people simply want to be seen, heard, validated, and accepted. I strive to do just that; making every client feel that, no matter what is going on for them, once they (virtually!) step into our joint space they can be however they are in that moment, and be seen, heard, and accepted. I often return to themes of being gentle with oneself, emotional acceptance, and self-worth. In a time when we’re encouraged to see our emotions as valid, but not always given room to experience them, I offer a space where they can be explored, understood, and expressed.

How I work

I like to work in an organic, individual way with each client. I'll ask questions, offer reflections, and, as our work continues and we build our safe space together, I'll sometimes ask more probing questions, at a pace that feels right for you. I draw primary on the Psychdynamic approach, alongside using aspects of person-centered, relational, and integrative approaches.

I have particular experience in working with students, young profesionals, law students and barristers. Alongside my private practice, I work as the counsellor for the Honorable Society of the Middle Temple, and have done so for over 5 years.

My Practice

I work online, preferably via zoom, using a secure, private link. I can also offer telephone appointments.
My sessions run for 50 minutes, one a weekly or fortnightly basis, depending on your preference. Ideally, we will stick to the same time slot every week - however, I know this isn't always possible, so I am happy to be flexible with this if another way works better for you. One of many advantages of online work is the flexibility and accessibility - even if something comes up and you are unable to make a session, don't be afraid to reach out, as more often than not we can sort something out!

In our first session, we will discuss the length of our time together. I typically offer a 20-session chunk to start off with, especially when clients indicate a desire for long term work. However, again this is something that I can be flexible with. Throughout our time together, I'll schedule mini reviews, checking in with you and seeing how you're finding the process, your thoughts about the sessions, and how you're feeling regarding our scheduled sessions left together. One of my aims as a therapist is building up client autonomy, helping you feel like we are a team working on the same goal; your wellbeing. Therefore, I want us to feel like we are on the same page regarding our time together, how the sessions are going, and how you are feeling about the process.

First Steps

I offer an initial 20-minute consultation, which is free of charge. My aim for this consultation is to find out about you, a little bit about your background, and essentially, what you would like to gain from our time together - alongside some logistics such as availability and fees.
This also gives you a chance to get to know me a little, hearing how I work, and asking any questions you might have. For me, it is important that you feel like proceeding on your therapeutic journey alongside me feels like the best fit for you.

At the end of this consultation, we will discuss if you feel like you would like to proceed. If so, we will decide together on when our first session will be. After the consultation, I shall then email you within the next 2 days our client/therapist contract, bank details, any upcoming key dates that I know I will be unable to work, and our zoom link for our sessions.

First Session

In our first session, my aim is to begin building our relationship, focusing on how to create a safe, secure online space for you. We will discuss what has brought you to therapy, your thoughts, feelings, and potential concerns about the process, and explore what you would like to focus on during our time together. I will also answer any questions that may have been raised from the client/therapist contract and discuss a rough timeline for our sessions together.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Goldsmiths University of London, and a PhD in Counselling studies from the University of Edinburgh. I am an individual member of the BACP.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
