About me
I work as an integrative therapist with a core foundational training in person-centred therapy. From my room in the beautiful grounds of Dartington Hall I provide a safe, confidential and accepting space to help explore what to do with this ‘one wild and precious life’.
As well as my predominately person-centred approach I am very influenced by eastern traditions of philosophy and thought. Through over 20 years practice of insight meditation, I can offer a mindful connection with a style of listening borne from an inner stillness and authentic curiosity about others, tuning carefully into what is said and what is not said. By working in this way new opportunities can spontaneously emerge and firmly held beliefs may be seen in a new light.
As a long standing therapy client I understand how much of a big step asking for help can be. My approach is warm and empathic and respects the unique relationship that develops with each and every client. This safety and trust provides the right conditions to explore events that underpin our behaviours and perspectives and allow us to look at alternative ways of being.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a core level four diploma training in therapeutic counselling with Step by Step Counselling in South Devon encompassing a range of therapeutic modalities, including CBT, Person-Centred Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt and ecotherapy.
I trained as a meditation teacher with Oxford Mindfulness and have completed a three month course in Trauma sensitive Mindfulness with trauma expert Dr. David Treleaven. I have personally been practicing Insight Meditation for over 20 years with regular silent retreats.
I have been supporting students at Exeter University since 2021 and so have a thorough understanding and compassion for the unique challenges facing young people through training and direct experience with issues like ecoanxiety, neurodivergence, male identity issues, eating disorders and phone/porn addiction.
Having experienced Long Covid for three years I have an understanding of the inherent frustrations of living with a chronic illness and some of the approaches and interventions that might help with this.
I am currently in the process of completing a 60 hour training in Focusing Skills through the British Focusing Association. This is a type of somatic experiencing paying gentle, non-judgmental attention to the felt sense of something in order to heal the body.
