About me
At Southport Bereavement Counselling Service I don't honestly have the answers to the questions that so many of us ask, concerning life and about death. But what I do believe in is that when taking a decision to ask for help with your bereavement and grief, maybe this could be the first step in the right direction.
Only you will know when and if that time is right. Don't be pushed or pressured into it. Bereavement counselling is really personal and the experience can be both harsh and difficult at times. In a calm and safe environment, without being judged, you might stand a chance not only to learn about yourself more but to try to come to terms with your loss.
My name is Alan Kirby, I am 62 years of age and I am a person-centred counsellor. I specialise exclusively with bereavement counselling.
My private practice is in the town centre of Southport, a 10 minute walk from Southport station, at number 1 Sussex Road, Southport, PR9 0SS. The office is situated on the ground floor with wheel chair access, and off-road parking. Availability is from 9.30am to 6.00pm from Monday-Friday, and out-of-hours service is available Saturdays & Sundays.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a member of the BACP. (No. 00988674) and I am fully insured.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
