About me
Adetoun Adams MBACP (Accred)
Psychotherapist | Oncology Counsellor | Couples Therapist
I am an accredited psychotherapist with over nine years of experience supporting adults through emotional and psychological difficulties. My work focuses on helping people navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, and the emotional impact of serious illness such as cancer.
I have a particular interest in psycho-oncology and provide specialist support to individuals and families affected by cancer. A diagnosis of cancer can bring shock, fear, uncertainty and many complex emotions. Therapy can provide a safe space to process these experiences, manage distress, and regain a sense of control and meaning during a very difficult time.
Alongside my oncology work, I support adults experiencing anxiety, depression, childhood trauma presenting in adulthood, relationship difficulties, and challenges related to life transitions. I am also trained to work with couples who want to improve communication, rebuild trust, or strengthen their relationship during stressful periods.
My approach is warm, thoughtful, and collaborative. I believe therapy works best when clients feel heard, understood, and respected. Together we explore your experiences at your pace, helping you develop insight, resilience, and practical ways to cope with life’s challenges.
I work with adults from diverse backgrounds and have a particular interest in supporting high-achieving individuals and members of African and diaspora communities, where conversations about mental health and illness are sometimes difficult or surrounded by stigma.
Sessions are available online for private clients, making therapy accessible wherever you are.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, facing a difficult diagnosis, struggling in your relationships, or simply need a space to think and talk, you are welcome to get in touch.

Training, qualifications & experience
I am a registered, qualified and accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP Accred) with over nine years of clinical experience supporting adults with a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties. I have worked across NHS talking therapies services and specialist oncology settings, supporting individuals affected by cancer as well as those experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship difficulties. My professional training includes trauma-informed therapy, couples therapy, and psycho-oncology, allowing me to support clients facing both everyday challenges and the emotional impact of serious illness. I have experience working with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds and understand how family dynamics, cultural expectations, and life experiences can shape mental well-being. I am committed to ongoing supervision and continuing professional development to ensure my practice remains ethical, reflective, and aligned with best practice.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
