About me

Hello, I'm Abi and I offer a confidential, empathetic space for you to work through difficult feelings, behaviours, situations or relationships.

We all experience painful moments or uncertainty in life - it is part of being human. In our sessions you can have the time and space to explore your needs, challenges and circumstances without judgment. I'll listen to you and work with what you need to be able to get a better, deeper understanding of yourself, your patterns of behaviour and how they affect your relationships with others.

Therapy isn't a magic or quick fix, so first sessions can feel a bit different to what we imagine therapy is, as they are just the beginning. Our sessions will be weekly and 50 minutes long. I offer open ended work so there's no set time limit on how long our therapeutic relationship will last - that's dependent on what you need. As part of our process we will set up occasional reviews of the work to ensure you are benefitting from our time together.

I work largely psychodynamically and draw on my studies of other theories to support my work with warmth and openness. This means I'm interested in how your past experiences are impacting your present and possibly your future life. I believe everyone has the capacity to grow and change, if we can give ourselves the time and space to do so. My job is to listen to your experiences, encourage your self discovery and bear witness to your potential growth.

Going to therapy can bring up challenging experiences and feelings. It is not always something that makes you feel better or happy at the end of each session. While we'll sometimes focus on the day to day, we will also look at the bigger picture of how you have come to be who and where you are now.

My hope is that overall you'll feel like it is a beneficial experience to address what you need to work through in a safe and confidential space.

I work online and in person, we can discuss what works best for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (TCL4) from CPCAB which is BACP Approved. I am a member of the BACP and work with their Ethical Framework to ensure I am working with clients safely and ethically.

Although I work psychodynamically my diploma taught an integrative approach and I draw on elements of Transactional Analysis and Family Systems to respond to your needs as a client.

I have regular supervision to also ensure my ethical and best practice as a therapist.

I take part in CPD in specialist areas e.g. relationships with food, sex, family dynamics and I seek these out actively to ensure I continue learning in areas that my clients may want to address.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
