About me
Abby Dunn – Integrative Counsellor & Psychotherapist in Barnsley | Face-to-Face and Online sessions offered
Hi, thanks for visiting my profile.
When it comes to reaching out for help, taking the first step can feel overwhelming. I offer a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space where you can talk openly and be heard. I am warm and friendly in my approach with an aim to help your time with me feel as comfortable as possible.
I am an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist based in Barnsley. I offer face-to-face sessions in Barnsley (a couple of miles outside the centre) and online sessions across the UK.
I support young people (16+) and adults with a range of emotional and mental health concerns, including: anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, stress, unresolved trauma, loss of identity, neurodiversity (Autism, ADHD, OCD), complicated family relationships, boundaries and personal growth. Please see the more detailed list of conditions/issues I can support with further down the page.
Therapy can be a powerful process, helping you reconnect with your inner strengths, understand yourself on a deeper level, and move towards improved wellbeing and quality of life. Sometimes we lose sight of who we are or what we want in life and I’m here to help you work through those challenges and find clarity again. Everyone carries power and strength but sometimes this can get lost along the way. I hope to support you to find yourself once again.
My Approach
As an Integrative Counsellor & Psychotherapist, I tailor sessions to suit your individual needs. I draw on a range of evidence-based approaches, including:
• Person-Centred Therapy
• Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
• Psychodynamic Therapy
• Transactional Analysis
This combination allows us to explore both past and present experiences, helping you understand how they may be influencing your current thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.
Sometimes, present struggles are driven by deeper-rooted events and experiences. Drawing on patterns and moving towards a level of understanding and acceptance can significantly improve mental health and wellbeing.
My Experience
I have worked within the mental health sector for over 10 years through a mixture of voluntary work, paid employment for non-profit organisations and self-employment.
I have experience supporting young people (16+) and adults facing various difficulties within their lives. I am incredibly passionate about my work and thoroughly enjoy working with people with an aim to support them to become the best version of themselves.
Professional Standards
I am a fully accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist with the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society and work in line with their ethical framework. I am fully insured and attend monthly clinical supervision as part of my commitment to safe, ethical, and effective practice.
If you’re looking for a Counsellor or Psychotherapist in Barnsley or an online therapist anywhere in the UK, I would be happy to support you on your journey. Please get in touch to discuss further.

Session frequency is ultimately the client’s choice. We can have a flexible approach with this depending on how you are feeling between sessions. Clients generally see me fortnightly or 3-weekly.
Some clients may only need a handful of sessions, others may benefit from a longer-term approach.
You don’t have to be at breaking point to start your therapy journey. It can be good to talk things through as more of a preventative and proactive approach too.
I offer a free 15-minute phone call to discuss further, answer any questions or queries you may have and generally allow you to decide whether I am the right fit for you. If you're satisfied following this, we can get our first session booked in. I look forward to hearing from you.

“Friendly professional and kind. Abby helped me manage my understanding and fear of ADHD diagnosis and how this may affect my life. She helped me plan and implement self care, good work habits and strengthened my resolve. Abby was caring and compassionate- allowing me time and space to embrace the diagnosis and learn to lean into it and discover my strengths. It was great to have a counsellor who helped me work through this season alongside my faith and spirituality with encouragement and support. I would definitely recommend Abby to friends and family.”
“I really feel like Abby has helped me be able to move on with my life after trauma. Talking with her was always really comfortable and it always just felt like a chat with a friend. Really recommend her services, thank you so much Abby!”
“An amazing person to work with. Perfect balance of professional & warmth. Offered a safe space to talk and vent, with an amazing ability to help you question actions or thoughts without pressure, leading to a huge growth in self-respect and self-worth. I'm proud of my growth, and Abby's guidance has played a massive factor in this! Highly recommend!”
“After a year of sessions, I can confidently say she's made a huge difference in my life. Today was my last session, and I'm leaving with so many helpful tools and a much clearer perspective. She really listened and understood what I was going through, offering support and guidance that felt tailored to my specific needs. I always felt comfortable and safe sharing with her, which made the whole process so much more effective. I'm incredibly grateful for her help and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a supportive and insightful counsellor.”

" I was dreading entering therapy due to the amount I needed to get through. Abby made it feel a lot easier to revisit some difficult events and help me towards a place of understanding and acceptance around these events. I’m now flourishing at work and in my relationships. Highly recommend Abby if you’re looking for a thorough and caring therapist”
“Abby Dunn is a fantastic therapist, who genuinely helped me come out of my shell and clear issues with my confidence. As well as helping me make sense of certain events in my life."
"After working with Abby for a few months, she helped me make small changes to gradually improve my mental health. She guided me through what I was struggling with and gave me the tools to help me cope better during having sessions.
