About me
Welcome to my profile page.
As an integrative Counsellor and Couples Counsellor, I work using person-centred, solution-focused and CBT approaches to best meet the needs of my clients. I aim to provide a safe, secure, non-judgmental environment in which we can work together to enable you to explore your emotions, reactions, concerns, thoughts, and feelings. This can then enable you to make the changes you desire to work towards feeling better.
I also specialise in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing) Therapy, an advanced trauma treatment which is a specialist therapy that targets trauma, PTSD, phobias and anxiety.
I am an accredited member of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and work within all confidentiality and ethical guidelines. I hold Professional Indemnity Insurance and also a current DBS.
Through 14 years of experience working both in my private practice and within the emergency services, my roles have included Senior Occupational Health Counsellor, Wellbeing and Engagement Manager, and most recently as the Trauma Lead for Northumbria Police. As Trauma Lead, I provided trauma treatment to Officers and Staff on a regional scale.
In addition, I have experience of working with families, couples, individuals, and young people in a variety of settings including charitable organisations and local authorities. I am very experienced in working across all areas, with trauma, bereavement and also with a wide range of both personal and work-related issues and concerns.
Having extensive experience of providing both 1-1 therapy and also managing the trauma support for a workforce of over 3500 officers, many of whom had experienced a range of trauma reactions, including PTSD, Complex PTSD or Vicarious Trauma.
Not only am I proficient in responding to and guiding you through your healing process, but also extremely passionate about the benefits of trauma treatment and utilising EMDR as a treatment and the benefits this approach can bring to those experiencing post trauma reactions.
The relationship between a therapist and a client is the most important aspect of therapy and as such our initial consultation allows you to meet and get to know me as the person behind my qualifications. Crucially this allows you to decide if I am the right person for you, as well as the right therapist.
I work from the newly opened, spacious, and tranquil Oldgate Therapy Centre in the centre of Morpeth. Morpeth has excellent bus and train access as well as plentiful free parking.

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

"Absolutely fantastic. I never dreamt that trauma therapy could be so successful, but it really has been. I can't praise Sue enough for the work she has done in helping to process trauma and be able to move forward. If you're in doubt about therapy, please take this recommendation as the biggest recommendation to get the help you need. Thank you Sue, we're indebted to you."
