About me
Counselling can be the opportunity to think the unthinkable and speak the unspeakable without the fear of what others might think.
Making the decision to seek counselling is often a difficult one and usually arises at a time when you are feeling less able to deal with it. The aim of counselling is to give you the opportunity to explore your concerns and feelings, discover what might be the underlying causes and to clarify ways of living more effectively and to move towards a greater sense of well-being.
If you decide you are interested in having counselling you can contact me by telephone, mobile or email or please visit my website for further information. We can then arrange an initial meeting where you will be able to explore, in confidence any issue that is troubling you.
It is important to choose a counsellor that you feel comfortable with, I believe that the very nature of the therapeutic relationship is the most important factor enabling progress and healing. I offer a warm, down to earth, yet professional service with the Derby area. I consider myself to be compassionate and considerate of all people and their presenting issues.
My practice is based from my home address in Littleover, which is a separate, quiet purpose built counselling room to the rear of my house. Littleover is situated on the south side of Derby within one mile of the A38 and A50 and less than 15 minutes from the M1 at Nottingham.
Whatever your difficulties may be, you can be assured of a warm welcome and a safe and supportive setting in which to explore them.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a qualified Accredited Counsellor with the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy, this means that my practice has been deemed to meet the standard for a competent, ethical and independent practitioner. My certificate number is 024807 this can be used to identify and check the Bacp Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.
After completing my initial counselling training, I have worked in the voluntary sector, refuges, women's agencies and a health clinic. I have been approved by the Derby City Council as a counselling service provider for parents and carers with referrals from Social Services whilst extended services funding was available. I have made appearances on Radio Derby and Capital FM to discuss relevant issues on specific mental health problems. I am currently a Regional Network Counsellor for the Sporting Chance Clinic founded in 2000 by former Arsenal and England captain Tony Adams MBE. For this charity I predominately work with addictions such as dependency to alcohol, gambling and substance misuse along with other destructive disorders for current or former professional or elite level athletes. I have also been invited in the past to work with individuals at the Dame Kelly HolmesTrust Project to help with depression. I also attend various workshops each year in order to ensure that my practice is kept up to date.
I work with an Integrative approach, which means that I integrate ideas and insights drawn from different counselling models in order to respond appropriately to the needs of individual clients. This approach supports my philosophy that each person is unique and therefore no one approach suits all.

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
