About me

As a fully qualified and experienced counsellor with over ten years experience, I provide a quiet, non judgemental and confidential space in which we can explore the issues which concern you.  As an Accredited member of BACP, I am deeply committed to providing the best possible care for my clients, either face-to-face or via telephone counselling.

Sometimes it helps to be listened to, sometimes it is important to understand why things are the way they are.  You may feel 'stuck' and not know how to deal with a difficult issue. It could be that you are having difficulties with relationships with other people. You may have suffered a loss that you can't adjust to. Or, you may be unhappy for no apparent reason.

I offer long and short term counselling for individual adults, adolescents and children in Cullompton, mid-Devon. I also offer counselling supervision with concessions given to trainee counsellors.

Low-self esteem, relationship issues, bullying, abusive relationships, anger, anxiety - these are the most frequent types of issues I encounter in my work.

Listening is a fundamental part of counselling and psychotherapy, and I will listen to you; actively listen, giving feedback from time to time, guiding you to explore the problem you bring, allowing you to come to a new understanding of what is happening to you and why. There will be no rush, you can go at your own pace.

Counselling and pyschotherapy offers the opportunity to explore your past experiences and how they may be impacting on how your life is now. It may be that there is a repeating pattern of experience that has its roots in your early years. Whatever is back there can't be taken away, but some light might be shone on it and some understanding be found, that helps you to live in an easier way.

I won't offer you advice but I will help you to make decisions or discover what is underneath what is happening to you for yourself.

For those new to the area, Cullompton is a short drive from Tiverton, Wellington, Broadclyst, and Exeter, and within easy reach from Crediton and Honiton and Taunton

Telephone Counselling - For some face-to-face counselling is not possible - it may be too distressing, it may be that life circumstances prevent it, or it may not be possible due to geographical locations. Whatever the reason, telephone counselling may be the solution. Once a contract has been agreed outlining the way in which we will work together, you simply need to ring me at the allotted time and the session will begin. As with face-to-face counselling, a telephone counselling session will last for 50 minutes. Email or telephone me if you have specific questions.

Training, qualifications & experience

* BACP Accredited Psychodynamic Therapist
* Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling
* Diploma in Counselling Children and Adolescents
* Advanced Diploma in Counselling Supervision
* Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
* Solution Focussed Brief Therapy
* Experienced in working with Art in Mental Health

Before training as a counsellor, I practised as a Homeopath 12 years. That work gave me insight into the relationship between emotion and illness. My counselling training enhanced my ability to work as a Homeopath and vice versa.  I no longer work as a Homeopath, choosing, instead, to direct my energy to my counselling and psychotherapy work.

I strongly promote any creative work that clients may use in their personal lives and am happy to explore that in the counselling work.  Where appopriate, I will encourage clients to express their feelings (or lack of feelings) using art materials.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
