About me

Jasminder Bahia is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist, EMDR (Trauma) Therapist, and Clinical Supervisor with over 22 years of experience in the field. She offers online appointments Monday to Friday during daytime hours, with no in-person sessions available until January/February 2025.

In addition to her therapeutic work, Jasminder is a Yoga Teacher Trainer and a skilled tutor in Pranayama (breathing techniques), Mindfulness, and Meditation. She integrates these techniques into her practice to help clients manage stress, anxiety, and depression, offering relaxation practices like Non-Sleep Deep Rest (NSDR) – Yoga Nidra to support better sleep.

Jasminder is committed to providing culturally sensitive therapy, focusing on racialised and historical trauma, as well as the experiences of diaspora and immigrant communities. She works with clients to explore identity, race, and systemic issues and is passionate about supporting individuals through decolonising approaches to therapy.

Jasminder was featured on the BBC World Service’s Heart and Soul in 2024, discussing Reclaiming Yoga as a South Asian practitioner. She brings this perspective into her practice, helping clients navigate identity, race, and cultural narratives in their therapeutic journey.

Training, qualifications & experience

Jasminder is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist (CPsychol) with over 22 years of experience in the field. She takes a multicultural approach to therapy, integrating various psychological models, including Humanistic, Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). She is an accredited EMDR Europe Practitioner and a Tutor at BAATN (Black, Asian, and African Therapy Network) on the "Introductory Certificate in Counselling Skills: Decolonising Therapeutic Practice."

As a skilled trainer in Yoga, Meditation, Pranayama (Breathing Practices), and Yoga Nidra (also known in the scientific community as Non-Sleep Deep Rest or NSDR), Jasminder combines these practices with her therapeutic work to address both mental and physical wellbeing. She is committed to helping clients develop a stronger mind-body connection, promoting relaxation, stress reduction, and overall emotional balance.

Jasminder has extensive experience working with a wide range of individuals, including children, young people, adults, and older adults, and is well-equipped to support those facing a variety of challenges. Her holistic approach also includes postural awareness to manage breathing patterns and reduce mental and physical tension.
