Lester Chern MBACP (Accred)
I am an Individual Counsellor and Couples Therapist. My core approach is Person-Centred, formulated by the American psychologist Carl Rogers. I have practised as a Counsellor since 2001 and as a Clinical Counselling Supervisor since 2009. What does this theory mean to you in practice?
I can offer you a warm, genuine, accepting and non-judgemental relationship. I work according to your pace and your needs and my hope is to enable you to give voice to your pain and distress. I believe that every human being is unique; "One size does not fit all!" We will work together on whatever is troubling you. I do not offer a diagnosis or a label. I listen carefully and try to convey my empathic understanding of you. I do not sit in total silence.
There may be times when your pain, hurt, anxiety or confusion can be unspeakable. Mere words alone cannot fully describe what you are going through? On some occasions it can be easier to express yourself creatively with other means. I have drawing materials, clay and common objects like buttons, shells or figures. No skill is needed!
In addition to working with individuals, I am trained to work with couples. Together, we can work to improve your understanding of one another and clarify those miscommunications that can lead to conflict. Couples therapy can be helpful for you both, to grow together and create harmony.
You may want to continue and improve your relationship or you may wish to attend so that you can end in a mutually satisfactory way.
Couples counselling can achieve all these objectives if there is mutual desire for change.
I understand that it can take a great deal of courage to make that first call.
I have long experience of counselling clients on a range of issues including abuse of various types, relationship difficulties, family conflict, bereavement and loss, unemployment, depression, anxiety, low self esteem and addictions.
Both in my counselling and supervision work, I work using my extensive experience and knowledge with whatever is helpful to you.
I have long experience of working with people of all ages, creeds, nationalities and sexual preferences.
Counselling can be short (6-12 sessions) or longer term according to your needs or preferences.
I can also provide sessions via SKYPE.
I practice in a quiet residential road with free and unrestricted parking.
Canons Park tube station is about 15 minutes walk away. From Edgware station, you can take either the 186, 79 or 340 buses to Canons Park tube station.
I am also easily accessible from Harrow, Elstree, Borehamwood, Bushey and Watford
I am both BACP Accredited and Registered and I have professional insurance.
