Self-confidence and Self-esteem

People may have been often been abused in some way which has sucked the life out of them, so that they lose their self-confidence and self-esteem.

Examples of where counselling sessions have been able to help are:

Clients repeatedly bullied at work: subtle repeated undermining through attacking them personally or not recognising their ability to make contributions to decision-making.

Clients being physically and/or verbally abused: being humiliated; being touched in a way that makes them feel uncomfortable; being repeatedly struck; being expected to be perfect.

By understanding what is happening to them, they become increasingly able to face up to their problem. This is the first step to their regaining self-confidence  Gradually, over time, they learn that they can take control of the situation. This helps them develop their self-esteem.
