Mixed emotions

Emotions can be overwhelming at times and, even as adults, managing a range of intense feelings can be difficult to negotiate especially in times of stress, anxiety and grief. To a certain point, stress and anxiety are our natural instincts to protect ourselves while we choose to take fight or flight. However, if we feel out of control and unable to cope with the range of irrational emotions flooding our conscious, it begins to overtake our thoughts and can impact our daily life choices in a detrimental way.

Reaching out to a counselling therapist can enable you to reflect and work through your feelings without judgement, helping you move forward and take control of your choices in a positive aspect and become a happier individual. When a painful experience is thrown at you, it triggers a negative response and you uncharacteristically find yourself becoming a different person and self-sabotaging, isolating, using addiction, angry, sad and a variety of other issues which impact our mental health so deeply but helps to numb our feelings.

The emotional rollercoaster takes us on a journey and how we manage that can lead to a different path and a different outcome. But our unconscious thoughts often find a way to comfort us by repeating patterns which can become self-destructive and trying to unscramble mixed emotions like anger, guilt, sadness, anxiety, resentment, depression and blame, is a minefield to negotiate around.

These difficult times of distress can bring forward other past memories and deeply painful experiences which can send us into a whirlwind of oblivion and chaotic thinking. Carrying guilt and blame is usually one of the first emotions we struggle with but we are unable to understand where this has come from. Seeking counselling therapy can facilitate you to unpeel feelings and recognise where the mistaken beliefs have come from, offering you a trusting, safe space to address them and begin to accept that no feeling is bad and working through them can assist you to heal and recover safely.

Mixed emotions weigh heavy on our shoulders and can bring a deep sense of disconnection to others and the world around us, so reaching out to a therapist is the first step to moving forward and should be celebrated on the road of a new journey. Being the best version of ourselves takes work and we need to give ourselves some credit and praise for trying to maintain a healthy mental well-being and recognise we are all individuals coping with life events and each person reacts in their own way.

Employing tools provides you with the tenacity to keep moving forward and live in the present, empowering you with positive coping mechanisms in times of anxiety and stress to be that person you want to be, fighting the mixed emotions and taking control and pride of your own decisions.

Repairing emotions can be challenging and painful but provides a deeper understanding of your actions and feelings, allowing you to begin to acknowledge the power of your choices and consequences. It delivers a sense of relief to share what you have been ruminating over and you realise it's never as bad as you thought. Therapists are never shocked, always understanding, supportive and listen to your issues unconditionally. It's your time and space to be your true self, and find what makes you grow and flourish.
