Feelings

Feelings come and go and they are fundamental aspects of our being. Often difficult to manage and seeking ways to change how we feel is normal. They are not always easy to identify either and when we experience trauma, abuse or difficult situations it is not unusual for us to repress, ignore or deny them.

We often fight to try and hold onto good feelings but they eventually move on. We get anxious in letting them go as we naturally dislike the more challenging feelings. These feelings we often try and push away and avoid feeling them whilst struggling to hold onto the good ones. However it is inevitable that the challanging feelings eventually come.

Unattended, repressed feelings of shame, guilt, fear etc can be toxic to our health. Often resulting in low self-esteem, lack of confidence, further causing psychological and physiological health issues, such as anxiety and social disorders, panic attacks, depression, addictions, headaches, muscular problems (stiff muscles), back aches, cold and flu etc.

Counselling and psychotherapy can help you release the toxicity of repressed feelings and emotions. This will have a positive effect on your health and well-being. The therapeutic process can also help you to learn how to be with your feelings, good, bad or indifferent without the struggle and fight to hold onto and avoid them.

Have a positive relationship with your feelings they have much to teach us.
