Danielle La Roche MBACP, BA (Hons) in Humanistic Counselling Practice
Hello and thank you for viewing my profile.
My name is Danielle and I am a qualified Counsellor based within easy reach of both Nottingham and Derby. My practice is easily accessible by car (with free off-street parking) and public transport (being just a five minute walk from Cator Lane, Chilwell tram stop).
I've spent over 9 years working in a range of therapeutic settings; including private practice, an FE College, a bereavement service and an addictions centre. In additions, I have worked in pastoral roles in both colleges and universities for over 18 years.
Benefits of counselling
Counselling and psychotherapy can be a great support in times when things feel too hard to face alone. It can be a huge relief to talk about difficult thoughts and feelings, especially to someone who is detached from the rest of your life. Talking to friends and family can be beneficial at times; however, working with a counsellor offers a useful opportunity to talk within a confidential, non-judgmental setting.
It is rarely easy for individuals to take the first step of contacting a counsellor; however, counselling offers a unique opportunity for clients to explore, discover and understand themselves better. Becoming more aware of thoughts and feelings can really empower clients to consider ways of responding to them, rather than denying them or feeling stuck.
My experience is that after only a handful of sessions clients can start to see positive changes (sometimes small changes but sometimes much bigger ones). Often clients come to their first session with a major jumble of thoughts and feelings; however, by starting to explore and talk through some of the presenting issues it invariably results in clients feeling a lot less hectic and overwhelmed.
There are all sorts of reasons why people might contact me; they may be in a difficult place within a relationship, experiencing depression or anxiety, be in the midst of a crisis or struggling to cope with a bereavement. No matter what issues you bring, I will offer a warm, compassionate and professional service. The information you share during our sessions will remain confidential and I will always offer you my full attention and respect.
My belief is that 'you' are the expert on your life (even if you do not feel like it at times). It is not my aim to tell you how to 'change', or to 'fix' your problems for you, rather I work alongside you in order to support you in finding your own answers.
For individuals to truly thrive in counselling, I firmly believe it is essential to build strong relationships between client and counsellor. As a result, I make it a priority to build positive and supportive relationships; where trust and support enable you to feel as safe as possible, so that you can share and explore whatever you need to.
I have experience of working with adults and young people (age 17+).
If you feel counselling might be for you please do contact me.
