Adv Dip Couns MBACP (Accred) EMDR certified & Supervisor

About me

I am an accredited Psychotherapist, a fully qualified EMDR practitioner and a member of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).

My aim as a psychotherapist is to aid you in becoming a fully functioning person who has more control over what they do and is not driven by unresolved unconscious past events.

ADULT INDIVIDUAL COUNSELLING
I will focus on your inner world and what is hidden from consciousness. I will draw out the unconscious responses and reflect them to you. By bringing the unconscious into consciousness you will develop more awareness and as a result have more choice. I will allow you to see a different perspective of what’s going on in your life.

In my work I tune into your pace rather than my own urgency to fix, therefore allowing you to move at your own pace.

COUPLES THERAPY

I will provide you with a safe therapeutic space in order to help you find a way through any difficulties you may be facing in your relationship(s). Together we will be taking a closer look at your (and your partner’s) attachment styles. Understanding your attachment style will allow you to gain insight into what changes will need to be implemented in order to make your relationship more secure.

What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a type of therapy that helps people heal from difficult or upsetting experiences, especially those that feel “stuck” or keep coming back in thoughts, feelings, or body sensations. When something traumatic happens, the brain sometimes doesn’t process it properly. EMDR helps the brain “unstick” the memory and file it away in a healthier way, similar to how our brains naturally process things during deep sleep.

How does EMDR work?

You will choose a memory that still feels upsetting or distressing. I will then ask you to focus on the memory while doing something repetitive. This might be moving your eyes side to side or tapping your hands.  These movements help your brain process the memory in a new way.
As you do this, the memory may begin to feel less intense. You might notice new thoughts, feelings, or insights coming up.
Over time, the memory is still there, but it doesn’t feel as painful or overwhelming. It becomes something that happened, not something that still controls how you feel.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
