About me

About me and my therapy practice

In my practice, you’ll find a confidential, welcoming space where you can freely explore emotions and issues that are troubling you. My goal is to build a trusting, open relationship with you where you can feel supported and understood.

I won’t give advice or tell you what to do, instead, I’m here to support you in discovering your own solutions and insights, recognising that you have the power within you to bring about change.

I aim to create a therapeutic space where you feel comfortable and able to explore different areas of your life, to say the things which might seem they can’t be said elsewhere, or you feel might not be understood. This will be your space and your session to bring whatever you like.

I work with a wide range of clients aged 18 and above facing challenges that may involve

  • Stress and Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Low Self-Esteem/Confidence
  • Domestic Abuse
  • Self-Harm
  • Relationship/Marriage Issues
  • Bereavement
  • Childhood Issues
  • Trauma
  • Work-Related Issues

As well as many other mental Health concerns

Some feedback from clients:

‘Before I started counselling my life was a complete mess due to the abuse I suffered. Val my counsellor is very understanding and I felt comfortable to open up to her. She has helped me so much I can’t thank her enough. Since finishing counselling my life has changed for the better, I’m still on a journey but I can honestly say without counselling I don’t know what my life would be like now. I’ve continued my life in more of a positive way and all I want to do now is keep on improving.’  Sarah

‘My counselling was great Val really helped so much I couldn’t fault her at all she’s brilliant in what she does’  Claire

My first session
I offer a free introductory phone call, up to 15 minutes long. This might involve discussing what has brought you to therapy and any questions you may have. Also it will be a chance for you to get a sense of whether you’d like to work with me. There’s no expectation to commit to anything further.

If you decide to continue with myself, our first full session will be spent exchanging basic details, exploring what's going on for you and setting some counselling goals.

My counselling contract is open ended and therefore you can have as little or as many sessions as you feel appropriate

I offer both in-person and online sessions and am fully competent in delivering both, in line with BACP guidelines.

Cost of therapy is £45.00 per session for individual counselling and each session is 50 minutes long. Concessions are available.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
