About me

Hello my name is Tracy, I understand that looking for a counsellor can sometimes be daunting. Maybe this is the first time you have considered talking to someone. This can be an important first step in getting support, and gaining some clarity on the issues that matter to you.

In the last 18 months much of our world, and our reality has changed as a result of the pandemic. Perhaps counselling is something you might not previously have considered. Maybe you feel your life has changed as a result of Covid, and you are wondering how to move forward in life.Perhaps you are feeling lost and confused? Whatever the reason counselling can offer you that safe space to explore your feelings.

So what can I offer you? Counselling is very much a two way process. As a counsellor whilst I can't tell you what to do, or give you the answers,  I can support you, through your own personal journey, and some of the challenges you might be facing. I often find it helps to look at the reasons behind our thought's, feelings, and behaviours. Once we know why, or how something happens then we can look at finding a solution. Or look at finding strategies to help you overcome a difficulty. Maybe you are feeling anxious? Together we can look at what causes the anxiety, and how you might overcome those feelings? Maybe you are struggling with relationships either with a family member, friend, work colleague? I can support you in exploring your relationships with others, and how your relationships can be improved. Maybe you are a concerned parent who has a child needing support? I have many years experience of supporting children, and families and can work alongside you, to help support them through any emotional challenges they face.

One of the areas I have most experience with is working with children, and young people. I have counselled within educational environments from primary to university settings. In addition to my private practice, I currently counsel within a secondary school. For 5 years I was a counsellor within a YMCA youth counselling service. I have also worked within a community counselling service working with adults on a short and long term basis. Throughout my roles I have gained experience of working with clients who are from various walks of life. Some of the situations I have worked with are self esteem, bullying, work issues, relationship issues, bereavement, self harm and anxiety.

I have an Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Counselling (2002), and I am a member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors, and Psychotherapists). I have a range of counselling experience both with long term, and short term clients.

Alongside my counselling background, I have a degree in Youth and Community Studies, and a Diploma in Nursery Nursing (NNEB). I have spent a lot of my professional life working with children, and young people in many different sectors.

I understand that you will have your own personal reasons that you might be considering  counselling. No two people are the same. I work flexibly to meet the needs of individuals. If having read my profile you would like to talk to me further about how best I can support, please feel free to contact me. Alternatively you can find more details, about how I work and what I offer on my website.

My practice is located in the Eden Valley in North Cumbria within easy reach of Carlisle, Penrith, Brampton, and Southern Scotland. I am a humanistic/person centred trained counsellor. However I see each client as being unique, and therefore use a range of different approaches appropriate to the needs of the individual client.

Just to finish off, I would like to leave you with a quote from the American psychologist Carl Rogers.

'The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.'

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile.

MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority.
