About me

We can all struggle at times but I find it's best not to do this alone, so let's talk about it. Sometimes an outside perspective can help to highlight blindspots in our thought patterns and in our routine ways of being.

Trust, confidentiality and being a positive support in the midst of someone's difficulties are the cornerstones of counselling. Let's meet in a safe space where you can share your story and we'll see what work we can work on, together.

We'd begin with a 5-10 minute phone call to discuss in general terms what you hope to gain from counselling. After, we'd meet for our Initial Consultation so that I can get to know you and assess your needs better. Sessions going forward will feel far more conversational.

Feeling understood by and having a sense of connection with your counsellor will put you in the best position for a more comfortable experience and promote deeper work together.

Training, qualifications & experience

My background is in Psychodynamic Counselling; that is acknowledging and understanding that our past and childhood experiences can have a lasting impact on our lives in the here and now and can also influence the ways in which we interact with others in our current lives.

The more deeply we can understand this, hopefully the freer from it we can become. It also takes into account the importance of the unconscious mind, in order to better understand and make lasting positive changes to our current situations.

I have particular experience working with the emergency services and have a depth of understanding of that background and environment. I also champion men accessing counselling, exploring their inner worlds and reaching out and seeking support.

I have had further Psychodynamic and Integrative Training in Couples Counselling which I enjoy and feel passionately about. This includes Marriages, Couples, LGBTQ+ relationships and other types of relationships, such as an adult child and a parent

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
