About me

Hi, I'm Tom and I am a fully accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist who offers CBT to individuals struggling to manage their emotional health.

In my 10 years of NHS experience, I have successfully utilised CBT to treat a variety of emotional health disorders including depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, Low Self Esteem, social anxiety and more. I'm also experienced in working with eating difficulties, including binge eating disorder and supporting individuals to recover from experiences of abuse.

Within my sessions, I couple my knowledge and experience of CBT and ACT interventions with a natural, curious and reflective therapeutic approach to create a comfortable environment for change. I also call upon my lived experiences of struggling with OCD, Anxiety, Depression and Burnout to build supportive therapeutic relationships with my clients and to support them towards recovery.

How can CBT help me?

Often referred to as a talking therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) recognises the powerful relationship between an individual’s thoughts, emotions, physical sensations and behaviour, whilst also acknowledging the role that this relationship may play in maintaining emotional health difficulties.

CBT aims to support individuals to regain autonomy over their emotional health by encouraging learning alongside the development of new skills and techniques that support individuals to reclaim their lives.

What should I expect from early sessions?

Initially, we will work collaboratively to support you to develop a greater insight into your difficulties, whilst also recognising your existing strengths and resilience. By exploring your goals for treatment, we will be able to formulate an evidence based, individualised, treatment plan to support you to achieve your ambitions. You will then progress through your treatment plan at your own pace, without pressure or expectation from your therapist.

What if I'm a little anxious about starting treatment?

Reaching out for help when we are struggling can be the hardest thing to do. With this in mind, my aim is to create a warm, supportive and confidential environment to help you to quickly feel comfortable with me and to begin to take the first steps towards recovery. If you are looking for support, let's chat.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have over 10 years of NHS experience ranging from inpatient and community eating disorder services, a thriving therapy service and a specialist weight management service. I regularly attend further training workshops to supplement my existing knowledge and experience, with recent topics including complex trauma and managing uncertainty in the wake of a global pandemic.

As an experienced CBT Therapist, with experience offering clinical supervision in both University and NHS environments, I have availability to take both students and qualified staff for supervision.

  • BSc (Hons) Psychology (First Class), University of Chester
  • MSc Psychological Research with Merit, University of Sheffield
  • PGCert Evidence Based Psychological Treatments, University of Reading
  • PGDip Evidence Based Psychological Treatments with Distinction, University of Reading
