Suzie White~Dovetail Counselling Service~Reg MBACP, PG Diploma in Counselling
6 Stafford Road
I offer counselling for couples and individuals of all ages from 15 years up. I have 15 years experience of working with a vast array of issues. My area of expertise is loss; through death, relationship problems or break up, changes in job, finances, health and way of life. I had extensive training while working with Cruse Bereavement Care. I have experience of working with different forms of loss including; complicated grief, infant, miscarriage, stillbirth, and through suicide and murder.
I also work with a wide array of issues, but the most common ones are; abuse, addictions, anger, anxiety, depression, PTSD, relationship, self-harm, stress and work related.
During my time working in a children’s home I started my counselling training. I soon realised that the way we worked, and saw the children, was in a person-centred way. That whatever has happened to the individual they have the ability to move towards a more fulfilling and satisfying way of being, and living their lives. That we didn't see the children as flawed, with problematic behaviours, and thoughts, who had no potential, and chances of a happy life.
This way of working came naturally to me, and over the years has resulted in me becoming a person-centred counsellor, who is led by your needs. Working together we can help you make those changes, and grow. I also use CBT, to help you learn to manage your problems and feelings by changing the way you think and behave.
How counselling can help you
When unexpected change, or traumatic events happen our brain can struggle to make sense, and process them. This can leave us struggling to cope, feeling overwhelmed, and with extremes of emotions. By providing a confidential, supportive, sensitive, compassionate, trusting and caring environment we can work together to give you the time and space to process your past, or present, experiences. To gain clarity and understand what is triggering, and maintaining your difficulties. To help you acquire new skills/techniques to assist you in overcoming the issues you are facing. Then the overwhelming difficulties can become more manageable, and change can happen for you to take back control, and lead a happier, and healthier life.
There are many stresses and issues in our everyday life that can put a strain on our relationships. With couples counselling I can help you to learn the skills to work through those difficulties, to glue your relationship solidly back together, just like a dovetail joint. In carpentry the dovetail joint requires practice, just like our relationships.
If however you decide that your relationship has run its course, and you decide to separate I am happy to work with you to obtain an amicable ending of your choosing.
