About me

As a BACP accredited Psychotherapist/Counsellor with experience as a NHS  mental health professional,  relationship counsellor and bereavement counsellor, I offer support in helping you explore particular difficulties you may wish to resolve in the present, or from the past. My aim is to offer a calm, non-judgemental space where you can talk openly, be heard and start to make sense of what you are experiencing. I will listen carefully, reflect and ask questions to help you develop understanding of your situation and find direction going forward. Together, we can bring about personal change.

Within my private practice in the West end of Aberdeen I offer support to adults in person,  online or telephone.  I believe every person is unique and as an integrative counsellor I draw from different types of therapy to tailor an approach specifically meeting your needs and concerns. This means, I may introduce strategies and techniques from humanistic therapies, dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT)  cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and mindfulness to help you manage challenges, build self-awareness and acceptance.

Issues I can offer support with are:

  • Anxiety, burnout and stress
  • Low self esteem and confidence
  • Feelings of not belonging
  • Depression, low mood , feelings of isolation or emotional numbness
  • Procrastination and perfectionism
  • Relationship and family challenges
  • Difficulties with intimacy or trust
  • Trauma, loss, grief, and past experiences affecting the present
  • Menopause, post natal depression
  • Making sense of confusing emotions such as anger, guilt, fear, sadness and shame

Currently I have hourly session availability on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8am - 8pm.

If you feel I might be able to help you, please contact me by email at: susanneforman.therapy@outlook.com for a free 20 minute non obligatory telephone call. This gives an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the therapeutic process and allows me to learn a little bit more about what is going on for you. Please check your junk/spam folder in case my response does not reach your usual inbox.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

COSCA
Counselling & Psychotherapy in Scotland (COSCA)

COSCA is the professional body for counselling and psychotherapy in Scotland, and seeks to advance all forms of counselling and psychotherapy and the use of counselling skills by promoting best practice and through the delivery of a range of sustainable services. COSCA Counsellor Accreditation is a pathway to entry onto the UKRC. It is a requirement of all individual and organisational members of COSCA to abide by its Statement of Ethics and Code of Practice and be accountable to the Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
