Welcome, I'm Susannah
I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist offering a compassionate and supportive space for you to explore what's troubling you. Whether your feeling overwhelmed, stuck or just need someone to talk to I can help you navigate difficult emotions, find understanding and a sense of calm. My aim is to support you in gaining insight, coping strategies and personal growth in an environment based on trust.
My approach combines elements from different therapeutic models, including person-centred, psychodynamic and CBT informed techniques with a focus on your unique needs. I have over 7 years of experience working in health and social care through roles in the NHS, including working in Primary Care Mental Health Support Services and within a Community Mental Health Team. Over the years I've had the privilege of providing therapeutic support to more than 450 clients with a wide range of mental health needs. I also bring experience of working with individuals and families affected by eating disorders through the charity Beat, gaining valuable insight in the the complexity and impact of these conditions.
I have supported adults through challenging traumatic life events resulting in them gaining increased self-awareness and personal growth. I am skilled in working with anxiety, trauma, bereavement, stress, depression, chronic health issues and have worked with individuals with dietary issues and eating disorders. I am able to witness clients gain understanding of their issues during our work together enabling them to move forward in their lives.
Whether you’re seeking clarity, coping strategies, emotional healing, or simply someone to talk to, I’m here to help at your pace and in a way that feels right for you. Clients have said that I am warm and understanding and are able to talk to me as I have a calming presence.
I am based in Abergavenny, South Wales where I have my own practice and offer in person and on-line counselling sessions within a safe and confidential room. I have a passion for the natural environment and enjoy providing walk and talk therapy in my local area within the Brecon Beacons National Park. My walking in nature sessions combine professional counselling with the benefits of movement and the calming effect of being outside.

- BA Hons in Social Work
- Master of Laws in Mental Health Policy and Practice.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

In addition to Monday, I can offer evening sessions on a Tuesday and Wednesday. Walking therapy sessions can be scheduled on a Friday.

As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I am committed to working in accordance with the Ethical Framework for Counselling Professions (2018). I comply with the BACP’s principles and good practice ensuring I have regular supervision and training to maintain my professional practice. With regard to client's personal data I am registered with the Independent Commission Office (ICO) a government body that regulates data protection in the UK.
