About me

Hi, I'm Susan,

I'm a Person-Centred Counsellor with seven years' experience working in my own practice. I trained for four and a half years to be a counsellor, having placements at a charity and at HMP Style too. This, I feel, gave me a very good grounding in working with clients struggling with a range of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, bereavement, relationships, abuse, and trauma.

I decided to train as a counsellor after losing my Mum and having therapy myself. I realised how much the therapist helped me to cope with my loss. I came to training later in life and am glad I did.

What I would offer you if you consider becoming a client is someone to really hear how you feel. Recognise how your past may have impacted your present life and explore how you really see and feel about yourself. I will work with you as an individual working to increase self -worth, where needed, look at self-care and self-awareness.

Sometimes it can feel like you've lost who you are. I can help you to reconnect with yourself again and better understand who you are, what you really feel, and work towards where you want to be in your life, both now and in the future.

Training, qualifications & experience

Having worked now for seven years as a counsellor, plus the four and a half years in training before that, I feel I have gained much insight into what I can offer clients. I understand my own strengths as a counsellor and as a person.  I know the issues that I can really help clients with as well as those that I don't. This is why I provide a free (10-15 minute telephone consultation); it gives you, as the prospective client, an idea of how I work and who I am, and it allows me to understand if my skills match your concerns or issues too.

On a more general level, here are my qualifications:-

  • I am fully qualified with up-to-date training
  • I am a registered member of the BACP
  • Level 5 Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling
  • Level 4 Certificate Person-Centred Counselling
  • Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills
  • Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Concepts

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
