MBACP, Dip in Counselling - Trauma, Anxiety and Relationship

About me

Hi I am Sue. I am a fully qualified counsellor with over 1,000 hours of clinical experience. I am trained in couples and individual practice. I know that when you read these profiles, we all seem to say the same thing. I encourage you to contact me and talk about your specific needs.

I suspect that if you are on this site and reading this, you are likely facing tough challenges. These challenges may feel too heavy to handle alone.

Maybe something has changed recently, making things harder. Or perhaps life has always felt tough. You might be ready to look into the deeper issues that cause your pain or unhappiness.

Recognising that things have become overwhelming takes courage. You are not alone. Together, we can look at what is happening for you. We can work towards better understanding and clarity.

I am known for my direct, down-to-earth approach. I work with compassion and move at a pace that feels right for you, always to create meaningful change.  Sessions with me provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you can speak openly about what’s on your mind and work through it together. How I work is grounded in proven counselling theories and methods. These methods have been researched and improved over time. They are effective and continue to change to meet the needs of people like you. I meet you where you are, grounded in the realities of everyday life rather than abstract self-help ideals.

I offer counselling for individuals, couples and families, both in person and online. I hold specialist training in both areas, recognising that each requires a distinct approach and expertise. I also provide support around sexual issues, when relevant to your personal journey.

As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, I follow high professional and ethical standards. I have extensive life experience, and I believe strongly in transparency throughout the therapeutic process. You have the right to understand our work together. I will explain each stage of therapy when I can. This will help you feel informed, empowered, and in control of your journey

To make counselling easy to access, I offer evening and weekend appointments. I know that daytime sessions are not always practical. I work from York, Pickering and Harrogate face-to-face and offer online sessions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

I am dedicated to ongoing professional development, regularly attending training and workshops related to the theories I use in my practice. My own experience with counselling inspired me to pursue this work, as I’ve seen firsthand how it can make life more manageable and fulfilling. Before becoming a counsellor, I worked in high-pressure, fast-paced environments while balancing family life, so I understand the challenges that can bring. I have also navigated personal experiences of grief from losing loved ones, which gives me a deep sense of empathy and understanding for others going through similar struggles. These are just a few examples of life experiences I have that I believe help me provide practical solutions.
