About me

Hello my name is Sue. I offer a warm, safe space in my private practice in Southsea. I also work online, via video and telephone.

I am here to listen and to work with you to make sense of what troubles you. The world we live in can throw many curve balls at us, be it anxiety, grief, depression, addiction to name a few.

Sometimes we need to give ourselves the time and space to look at what this means to our life. Together, we will go gently at your pace to make sense of what may seem and feel just too much for your heart and mind to carry right now. I will work with you towards bringing about change and growth.

I appreciate that it's important to find a counsellor that you feel comfortable with and to be understood. I offer a free 20 minute consultation phone call so that we can talk through what you initially hope to achieve through working together. This will also give you an opportunity to ask any questions about counselling and how I work.

I work within a humanistic approach. I will always have respect for you and make no judgmental of anything you wish to bring to our sessions.  I'll be honest and transparent about how I experience you and your world, whilst being empathic and understanding of how you experience situations and feelings.

My aim is to help you achieve your full potential and make positive choices in your life.  So this in turn may lead you on a path to a happy and peaceful way of being ❤️

Training, qualifications & experience

I'm a qualified person-centred counsellor with an Advanced Diploma Level 5 in Person-Centred Counselling. I've had the privilege of supporting people from many walks of life through both my private practice and volunteer work. I previously volunteered with a charity supporting individuals affected by sexual and domestic abuse, offering a safe space for them to process their experiences. Currently, I'm a volunteer counsellor for a neonatal bereavement charity, helping parents navigate the complex emotions that come with the loss of a baby.

These experiences have deepened my understanding of grief, trauma, and the strength people show in difficult times. They've also shaped my compassionate and nonjudgmental approach, which I bring into every counselling session.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
