About me
Hello, I’m Stuart, a UKCP-registered existential psychotherapist and counsellor based in London. I work with adults on a one-to-one basis, both in person and online, offering short-term and open-ended therapy.
There are many reasons people come to therapy. You may be struggling with the impact of a recent event or unexpected change, living with a prolonged sense of suffering, or noticing unhelpful patterns of thought and behaviour. Perhaps you’re feeling stuck, disconnected, or uncertain about your direction in life. It may even be difficult to put into words what feels wrong; you simply know that you want things to be different.
Sometimes that difference comes through change, sometimes through adapting your responses to difficult situations, and sometimes through a deeper understanding of yourself and your experience. Existential therapy can help with this process.
‘What on earth is existential therapy?!’
In practice, it’s a way of working that means I encourage your reflection not only on what your challenges are and why they exist but also how they exist that is, how they are uniquely experienced by you. We might examine them through the lenses of identity, meaning, choice, and uncertainty; explore how your present experiences are influenced by the narratives you hold about your past and imagined future; and consider how these past, present and (imagined) future experiences shape your relationship with others, yourself, and the wider world.
A trusting therapeutic relationship is at the heart of this process. I aim to provide a safe, supportive environment in which difficult thoughts, feelings, and experiences can be explored openly and confidentially. Drawing on my background in the arts, I see therapy as a creative, collaborative endeavour in which we can work together to find an approach that feels right for you. I won’t tell you what to do or offer advice, but I won’t be silent or passive either. Instead, I will:
- Listen with compassion, curiosity, and empathy.
- Help you understand and make sense of your experiences, difficult feelings and emotions.
- Notice and explore recurring themes and patterns.
- Encourage self-compassion and a more accepting relationship with past choices.
- Help you clarify and question your values, beliefs, and assumptions.
- Explore ways of responding to and coping with life’s challenges.
- Help illuminate alternative choices and possibilities for living.
Training, qualifications & experience
I trained at The New School of Psychotherapy and Counselling, one of Europe’s leading institutions for training and research in existential psychotherapy, graduating with a Master’s in Psychotherapy Studies and a Diploma in Existential Psychotherapy. I am thrilled that I have now returned to the school as a tutor for the same courses alongside my private practice.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
