About me

Welcome
I understand that reaching out for support can feel daunting and may bring up feelings of uncertainty or anxiety. Taking that first step is often one of the hardest parts of the process, and I want to acknowledge the courage it takes to get in touch.

Whatever you are experiencing right now is valid and important. Therapy begins with where you are today, and together we can explore what has brought you here and where you would like to go next.

A Little About You and the Therapeutic Process
The word empower means to help someone become stronger, more confident, and more able to take control of their life. This belief sits at the heart of my work as a therapist.

People seek therapy for many different reasons. You may be looking to make a change, develop greater self-awareness, process difficult experiences, navigate challenges, or simply have a safe and supportive space to talk. Whatever your reason for reaching out, therapy can provide an opportunity for growth, understanding, and healing.

Choosing a therapist is a personal decision, and I appreciate that it can feel overwhelming. Finding someone you feel comfortable with is important. That's why I offer a free initial consultation, giving us the opportunity to meet, discuss your needs, and explore whether I am the right fit for you.

There is absolutely no obligation to continue after this conversation. Therapy works best when the relationship feels right, and I fully understand that not every therapist will suit every person. I offer both face-to-face and online sessions, and we can discuss which option feels most appropriate for you during our initial consultation.

If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch. I would be happy to hear from you.

A Little About Me
My name is Sophie, and I am a qualified Integrative Therapist and Coach. I founded Empower U Therapy because I am passionate about helping people recognise their strengths, build confidence, and create meaningful change in their lives.

As an integrative therapist, I am trained in a range of therapeutic approaches, allowing me to tailor our work together to your individual needs. This flexible way of working means we can adapt our approach as therapy progresses, responding to what feels most helpful for you at any given time.

I strive to create a safe, supportive, and non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences openly. Therapy is a place where you can be yourself, feel heard, and develop a deeper understanding of who you are.

What to Expect
Therapy is a unique and personal journey, and no two experiences are the same. While the process can sometimes feel challenging, it can also be deeply rewarding.

Growth is rarely a straight path. There may be times when progress feels clear and other times when things feel uncertain. Some changes may be small and gradual, while others may feel significant and transformative. Every step forward, no matter how big or small, is meaningful.

Throughout this journey, I will provide support, encouragement, and a space for reflection as we work together towards your goals.

My Areas of Experience
I have worked within the field of addiction for over ten years. During this time, I have supported individuals facing a wide range of challenges, recognising that addiction is often one part of a much broader story.

My experience includes working with:

  • Addiction and recovery
  • Trauma
  • Anxiety
  • Relationships
  • Sexuality
  • Self harm and suicide
  • Grief and Loss
  • Domestic violence

If I believe that another professional would be better suited to support your needs, I will always discuss this openly with you and can help signpost you to appropriate services. I am also connected to a trusted network of therapists and coaches, enabling me to make referrals where necessary.

Counselling and Coaching
Alongside my work as a therapist, I am also a trained coach. My coaching training follows the Personal Consultancy model, which allows me to integrate both counselling and coaching approaches within our work together when appropriate.

Counselling provides a space for reflection, exploration, empathy, and understanding. Coaching can offer structure, goal-setting, practical tools, and constructive feedback. Depending on your needs and preferences, we can use either approach individually or combine them to create a collaborative and personalised way of working.

This flexibility allows us to tailor sessions to what feels most beneficial for you, ensuring you receive the support that best meets your needs at each stage of your journey.

Please get in touch if you would like to know more.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
