About me

I want to acknowledge…
how difficult and anxiety provoking it can be to reach out and seek support, but I want you to know that it’s ok and however you are feeling right now is to be recognised, because this is where you are currently at, and this is where we start.

A little bit about you and the process…
To ‘Empower’ means… ‘To help make someone stronger and more confident in controlling their life’, and this is what I am passionate about and what I believe therapy entails. No matter your reason for reaching out, weather this is empowering you to make a change, building self-awareness and learning more about yourself, processing something you have been through, or just having someone to speak to, therapy can help.

I know picking a therapist can be daunting and challenging, there’s lots of us, and therefore please get in touch if you would like a free consultation to see If I am the right person for you. There is no pressure to commit to this process following this, I completely understand as with everything that my approach and me may or may not be for you, and this is ok. I am available for face to face and online therapy, depending on what suits you best and this can be discussed in the initial consultation. I understand the importance of selecting a therapist that is best for you, and therefore if you have any questions please reach out.

A little bit about me…
My name is Sophie and I am a qualified integrative therapist. I created EmpowerUTherapy as I truly believe in the force of empowerment which I strive to offer through sessions. As an integrative therapist I have been trained to use multiple approaches which allows us to work in a flexible, creative and tailored way together, based on where you are currently at. We can switch between these to suit you, depending on what comes up and how you feel. We are all constantly learning and I strive to create a safe, non- judgemental, creative space for you to be vulnerable and explore your whole self.

What to expect…
Therapy is never predictable, so expect the unexpected. Change and the unknown can be scary, but I can offer you support to navigate through this. We are all humans who make mistakes and can get things wrong and that is ok. We may take one step forward and two steps back, but this is part of the process and completely normal. Some changes are tiny and others are massive steps, but each and every one is an achievement. The therapy journey is rewarding and challenging, but I will be there to support you throughout.

My specialism…
I have worked with addiction for 10+ years, however throughout these years I have supported individuals with multiple difficulties as addiction tends to be one part of the bigger picture.. some of these issues include: trauma, mental health, domestic violence, grief and bereavement, suicidal thoughts… If I do not think I am the right person for you, I can sign post you to someone that can help, especially as I am linked with a community of therapists and coaches that I trained alongside.

One last thing…
Alongside being a therapist, I am also trained as a coach. I trained using the personal consultancy model, meaning I can use both counselling and coaching in sessions individually or combined to compliment one another. Being a coach, I can offer a model of construction to share ideas and feedback. Being a counsellor, I can listen, show empathy and be inquisitive. When used together I can offer a balance and a co-operative way of working. When used separately the session can be tailored to what you feel you need, this is completely up to you. It gives us just a further tool and way of working.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
