About me

Hi, my name is Sophie (she/they). It’s not an easy thing to do, reaching out for help, so what can we do together to help you move on the next steps to help you lead an authentic and fulfilling life?

As a qualified Person-Centred counsellor, I’m here to help you on this journey. I strongly believe in the power of counselling and it’s ability to help empower people within their own lives. We all have the skills within ourselves; sometimes it takes a bit of support to discover them.

Why counselling?

The modern world can often leave us feeling alone, isolated, and that our struggles are some sort of personal failing. This can lead to anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, overwhelm or grief, with little time or space to process these experiences and emotions. We shouldn’t feel bad about not being able to cope with these issues; that’s a lot for one person to try and sort through by themselves. It’s okay to reach out for help from someone willing and trained to help.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Professional Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling. This means I will not make attempts to diagnose, offer ready-made solutions or try to ‘fix’ you. Within the counselling relationship that we develop, you will learn to trust that you are the expert on your own feelings and experience. I’ll be alongside you throughout, providing a confidential, safe and non-judgmental space, to allow us to explore these emotions and experiences at a pace that works for you. Counselling sessions will be tailored to suit your needs because just like a fingerprint our human experiences are all unique.

My client work

I have worked with a broad range of clients and have a particular interest in:

  • Relationship issues
  • Gender identity
  • Sexuality
  • Issues facing carers
  • Health anxiety
  • Self-esteem
  • Anxiety

This is not an exhaustive list, so even if you feel your experience differs from this, please reach out. We are more than just a catalogue of issues and we can still take that chance to work together.

Further information

I am also interested in the role that creative skills can have in the counselling space. Sometimes, words aren’t enough to truly express the emotions that we contain. By using art, movement, music or anything that you feel reflect what’s going on inside we may be able to tap into a better express ourselves. There are many different way to explore these feelings and I encourage their use.

How to get in contact

If this feels like a relationship that would work for you feel free to contact me, by phone or email, and we can have a free 15 minute consultation about what you are going through and what help that you are looking to get. This will give us a chance to connect and if I’m not the right person for you then I might be able to point you in the direction of someone who may be a better fit.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) so I adhere to their Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling. I am also an active member of the Psychotherapy and Counselling Union (PCU).
