About me
Hello.
I am a Person-Centred counsellor based in Southampton. I provide compassionate counselling services for those in need.
No issue is too big or too small. If you are struggling with issues such as stress, trauma, anxiety, depression, mood disorder, addiction, family issues or breakdown, bereavement, relationship problems, difficulties in your childhood, past/present abuse, bullying, domestic violence or you are repeating patterns that you can't make sense of, sharing your thoughts and feelings with me could help.
Other issues may include feeling helpless or hopeless, panic, fear, irritability, guilt, shame. Maybe you are having difficulty concentrating, outbursts of rage or violence, poor sleep patterns, dissociation or withdrawal, or dealing with agoraphobia, risk taking behaviour, compulsivity, mood swings or problems at work. Any struggles that have a negative impact on your well-being and sense of self can get in the way of joy and pleasure and your very sense of life and vitality.
You may be questioning your identity or sexuality. I strive to create a safe and supportive environment where you can feel comfortable exploring your thoughts and feelings.
Sometimes, life can feel overwhelming and talking with friends and family doesn't seem enough anymore. The help that they offer provides only a momentary relief from your problems, but it doesn't seem to get to the root of how you are feeling. I provide an accepting, understanding and non-judgemental environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings, gain insights into your behaviour, and develop strategies for positive change.
I also provide counselling for children and young people, helping them to overcome a range of challenges such as anxiety, exam anxiety, feeling low, behavioural issues, low self-esteem, low self-worth, school refusal, friendship issues, or family issues. I have a vast experience working with children and young people, and the way in which I work helps them to develop coping skills, improve self-esteem, and achieve greater success in school and other areas of life.
Sessions
Each session lasts for 50 minutes. The beginning of the first session will be our chance to chat about the service I provide and for you to ask any questions you may have about therapy. If you are happy to proceed, the rest of session one will be dedicated to what brings you to therapy, as will the subsequent sessions.
Access
At Royal Mail House there is pay at meter parking out the front and plenty of pay at meter parking around the area.
At Carlton Studios, Southampton there is a pay at meter car park outside of the building and good transport connections. There is wheelchair access into the building.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have achieved a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Person-Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy and I am a member of the BACP. Additional to my own practice, I also work within schools and have years of experience working with young people with mental health issues such as stress, anxiety, anger, low self-esteem, social withdrawal, questioning identity and/or sexuality, harassment, bullying, grief and bereavement, trauma, self-harm, abuse, sexual assault, rape, and suicidal ideology and/or attempt.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
