About me

Hi! My name is Shuchi. I am a qualified counsellor and I work online, primarily with adults and teenagers.

Firstly, Congratulations on taking the first step by attempting to find the right counsellor for you!

I am not your typical "nod and smile" counsellor - in my work with my clients, I initially aim to build trust because the true work begins only when trust has been built. I engage fully with you in our sessions, seeing only a limited amount of clients every week so as to be fully present with you. Sessions with me are honest,  emotional, deep and sometimes even a tad humorous since I truly believe that humour, when used correctly, can be extremely therapeutic.

I always work to provide you with an absolutely safe and non-judgemental place. The work I do will support you to uncover the layers that life, people and experiences have imposed upon you and eventually reject them to get in touch with your authentic self thereby recalibrating your life as per your choice. I extensively use inner child work in my sessions if need be, since I feel most of us have an inner child within who needs to heal. I also offer solution-focussed therapy, which in my experience has been extremely helpful while working with my male clients.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a registered member of the BACP and I have acquired my Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic counselling a few years back. I have worked with teenagers while working with Place2Be and London Young counselling. Apart from my private practice, I also worked with Frontline Therapists, an agency that offered affordable counselling to people of colour with the aim of making counselling available to all. I also offer a few hours every work to Happiworkers, an agency that aims to provide mental health support to racialised employees.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
