About me

"You can only heal when you're being heard"

Hi, my name is Shuaib, what I love most, is making a difference in a persons life and the difficulties that they're faced with.  Therefore, I chose a career in mental health & to qualify as a Psychotherapist, switching my original career path from Mechanical Engineering.

Since I was a child all the way throughout adulthood, I have faced a vast number of traumas and difficulties,  I understand how this can shape a person in many ways and effect their mental health. As a male, I have often found that resources are limited within mental health services, & often a stigma is attached for people accessing support for mental health difficulties, especially for males.

My masters in psychotherapy was focused around the barriers that South Asians face when accessing mental health services due to religion & cultural beliefs.

I work full time within the 'Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT)'  service within the NHS as a qualified Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP). Within this role, I deliver treatments to patients, depression recovery groups, online treatment through Silvercloud we well as telephone/online assessments.

I aim to complete my Step 3 training within IAPT to qualify as a Step 3 therapist which will equip me with the essential skills to treat patients/clients further.

Within my most previous role at Locala Sexual Health, I was able to work as a specialist supporting street workers, children and adults with a variety of sexual health problems, human trafficking/ county lines and carried out sexual health testing.

Within my previous role within HMP Leeds,  I worked within a specialist role managing the mind sets of prisoners, stopping them from re-offending and creating re-settlement plans using the desistance approach. I worked with prisoners in a group setting & on a one to one basis depending on the intervention that was being delivered.

As a specialist for West Yorkshire Police (covering all West Yorkshire) I worked on high risk domestic violence cases, obtaining court orders and prosecuting breaches in Leeds Magistrates Court. I also have worked as a Bank South East Asian specialist for the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice supporting families that have lost a child to a disease.

As a trainee psychotherapist, I completed my placement at NHS Barnsley Hospital within occupational health managing NHS staff and school staff around the Barnsley area within a clinical setting who suffered with a wide range of mental health issues. I supported a wide range of staff including specialists which included doctors & surgeons. I have worked as a trainee psychotherapist for Saint Michael's Hospice within Just B Bereavement within Harrogate & Starbeck.

I hold a vast amount of experience working with issues that both genders face & I constantly push for mental health management, positive change and equality for everyone.

When I deliver therapy, you're always made to feel safe, relaxed, understood & welcome.

As a person, I’m extremely easy to get along with & I aim to create and sustain trusting relationships, always.  I always aim to make each session comfortable and I adapt to each clients’ needs as everyone is unique.

I have an excellent sense of humor but I’m also very professional & I aim to deliver an excellent service which works around you & your needs. If you're looking for someone who can support you through a difficult time but who can also understand you as an individual, then I feel you have found the right Psychotherapist :)

If you have any further questions/ issues or just want to speak about the service offered, then please don’t hesitate to get in to contact.

Thank you for time and as always, take care.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
