Shuaib Mustafa UHE Cert, BSc (Hons) Counselling, PG DPS, MBACP
"You can only heal when your being heard".
Hi, my name is Shuaib, what I love most is making a difference to people and their lives and that is just one of the reasons I chose to qualify as a Psychotherapist. I switched my career from Mechanical Engineering due to the passion I have for putting a smile on someone’s face.
Since I was a child all the way throughout adulthood, I have been faced with a vast number of traumas and difficulties in life and I understand how this can shape a person in many ways. As a male, I have often found that resources are limited, and a stigma is attached for people who are often finding it difficult when accessing support for mental health services.
As a British South Asian Pakistani Male, I decided to break the barriers and create a place for change to take place.
I currently work full time in a Prison within a specialist role managing the mind sets of prisoners, stopping them from re-offending and creating re-settlement plans using the desistance approach. I work with prisoners in a group setting and on a one to one basis depending on the intervention that is being delivered.
In my previous role, I worked as a specialist for West Yorkshire Police (covering all West Yorkshire) on high risk domestic violence cases, obtaining orders and prosecuting breaches in Leeds Magistrates Court.
I also work as a Bank South East Asian specialist for the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice supporting families that have lost a child to a disease.
I have also worked as a trainee psychotherapist within the NHS at Barnsley Hospital within occupational health managing NHS staff and school staff around the Barnsley area within a clinical setting who suffered with a wide range of mental health issues.
In this trainee position, I was able to support a wide range of staff including specialists which included doctors and surgeons. I have worked as a trainee psychotherapist for Saint Michael's Hospice within Just B Bereavement within Harrogate/ Starbeck.
I hold a vast amount of experience working with issues that both genders face and I constantly push for happiness and positive change and equality for everyone. I have had an excellent turnaround within the NHS due to being able to help staff achieve success in under six sessions.
I have knowledge around different cultures and backgrounds and my parents have raised me to treat every single person with respect, fairness and equality. When I deliver therapy, you will always be made to feel safe, secure, relaxed, understood and welcome.
As a person, I’m extremely easy to get along with and I aim to create and sustain trusting relationships. I always aim to make each session comfortable and I adapt to each clients’ needs as everyone is unique and I tailor the therapy to your needs.
I have an excellent sense of humour and I always support a person to come out of their shell but above this, I’m a professional who aims to deliver an excellent service which works around you and your needs.
If you're looking for someone who can support you through a difficult time and who also understands, then I feel you have found the right Psychotherapist :)
If you have any further questions/ issues or just want to speak about the service, then please don’t hesitate to get in to contact.
Thank you for time and I look forward to working with you
