About me
Life can be challenging for most of us at times and sometimes individuals can suffer from psychological difficulties as they try to cope. I offer a safe, supportive and confidential environment to enable people to explore these challenges. It can feel daunting at first to talk about personal thoughts and feelings so I recognise the importance of developing a strong therapeutic relationship as this is an important factor in how successful any therapy will be. I work within a range of psychological and therapeutic approaches depending on the needs of the client.
As well as working with individuals I am also able to offer couples therapy, including psychosexual therapy.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a chartered member of the British Psychological Society as a Counselling Health Psychologist and registered with HCPC. I have over 25 years experience in public (NHS) and private sector work providing therapy to individuals, couples and groups in a variety of settings. I am trained in a variety of evidence based therapeutic approaches including, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychotherapeutic models, Mindfulness based models, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused approaches. I am also a Relate trained Psychosexual Therapist.
My experience has involved working with varying levels of human distress so I can help people with different mental health difficulties including depression, anxiety and panic attacks, trauma as well as offering help and support with other psychological difficulties such as bereavement and abnormal grief reactions, loss, relationship difficulties and breakdown, workplace stresses and other life problems.
My specialist area is in chronic health conditions and life limiting illnesses. The aim of my therapy is to help people find ways to cope and to adjust to living with their particular physical health condition and to improve their quality of life.
