About me
Sharon Bevis, MNCPS Dip Psych Couns
Life is an ever-changing landscape, where challenges present themselves and we find ourselves having to adapt to new situations. This can put pressure on our mental health, our emotions, relationships, work and much more. Whatever it is, with my emphatic approach you can feel accepted, heard, and able to express your thoughts and feelings without fear of judgement.
You may be feeling overwhelmed and weighed down by life’s ups and downs. Feeling lost and unable to find the right path. Perhaps, stress, anxiety, trauma or depression are affecting you currently. A specific issue, your health, an illness, or bereavement. Abuse, or self-destructive behaviours.
I am an experienced qualified Integrative Counsellor and Complementary Therapist. A member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society, and of the Federation of Holistic Therapists.
I provide a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space in which you can feel supported whilst sharing your feelings. As an integrative counsellor I am able to use various evidence-based techniques to meet your unique needs. I am also able to use theory, whilst connecting it to creative techniques
Working with an integrative approach I can draw on a variety of modalities, depending on which will enable me to help you most effectively. These include Psychodynamic, Person-Centred and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – CBT.
*The psychodynamic approach to therapy allows us to tap into the unconscious part of our brain. Allowing us to understand what is behind our emotional distress. Delving into the past to look at how, as individuals we are being affected in the present.
*Person-centred therapy places the client at the centre. The core purpose of person-centred therapy is to help us self-actualise (fulfil our potential and do what we are capable of). This approach facilitates the personal growth and relationships of a client by allowing them to explore and utilise their own strengths. The approach can help the client reconnect with their values and sense of self-worth, enabling them to find their own way to move forward.
*Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – CBT can provide the tools and strategies to allow thought processes that are currently causing distress, to be replaced with new patterns that provide a foundation for healing.
Counselling and therapy are about empowering ourselves with understanding so we can better comprehend our feelings, behaviours and reactions. We are then able to change or adapt those that may have been causing us difficulties. I do not sit with you only from an academic point of view, I also have lived through many of life’s challenge’s and I understand that these can be varied and difficult to work through.
For me, the relationship between client and counsellor is the foundation that therapy is built upon. It is one of trust.
I provide a secure environment where you can speak freely, working through whatever it is that you are struggling with right now. By working together, we can clear the path to a view that is the future you would like for yourself.
I recognise the importance of continuous professional development. I have regular supervision which enables me to reflect on and use my clinical experiences to enhance my learning, gaining insight into the experiences of clients. This in turn enhances my knowledge, skills, and provides greater awareness in my own self-reflection and self-awareness.
