About me
I’m Shannon Hawker, a Clinical Psychologist registered with the HCPC (UK) and HPCSA (South Africa). My training began in South Africa, where I completed my qualifications before expanding my work to the UK, a journey that has given me a deep appreciation for cultural nuance, resilience, and the universal need to be seen and heard.
My belief: “You were given this life because you are strong enough to live it”, guides my work. It’s a reminder that strength is not about never breaking, but about choosing to keep going. In our work together, I strive to create a safe, compassionate space where you can explore, heal, and rediscover yourself, not to fix what’s broken, but to honour what’s already whole.
I offer psychotherapy to children (5+), adolescents, adults, and families in a space that is LGBTQI+ affirming, neuroaffirming, and trauma-informed. My heart is with those who carry invisible weight, the ones told they’re “too much” or “not enough.”
Training, qualifications & experience
I earned my Master of Social Science in Clinical Psychology (Cum Laude), BA Honours in Psychology (Cum Laude), and BA (Cum Laude) in South Africa. Since then, my work has taken me through psychiatric hospitals, general medical settings, schools, and correctional services, spaces that have deepened my respect for resilience, healing, and the courage it takes to grow.

school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.
They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.
Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.

Further information
I’m passionate about the intersection of skin and psychological health not just in therapy, but in research. I am the main author in a study exploring emotional support and post-traumatic growth in people living with psychophysiological skin disorders.
Outside of this, I also have a strong research interest in neurodiversity particularly in understanding cognitive diversity, lived experience, and how support systems can foster resilience and self-actualization across different neurological profiles.
