About me

Hello, I'm Sarah, a BACP registered person-centred psychotherapist/ counsellor with an MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy and experience working with young people and adults of all ages.

I work both in-person and online from my home in ST17 on weeknight evenings, Friday during the day, and Saturday mornings.

I believe each person is unique having been impacted and shaped by their personal life circumstances so I will meet you exactly where you are at and offer a warm, non-judgemental space where you will experience tenderness, empathy and acceptance.

In this space, it is my hope that you will be enabled to grow in curiosity, self-compassion and a deeper understanding of yourself. As we journey together, I will offer a skilful presence where I will gently attune to your experience and your experience of yourself. I will offer insight and support for you to begin to make sense of your life experiences and any blind spots or revelations that may arise as we work together. It is my belief that successful counselling and psychotherapy empowers and liberates a person to connect to their true self that may have been hidden for a long time; to come to a place of self-acceptance and healing which positively impacts a person's relationships with others and ultimately, their life as a whole.

I work with a wide range of mental health challenges; my areas of expertise are listed below.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). As such, I am fully committed to working within their professional guidelines which are governed by the BACP Ethical Framework.

I hold an MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).

I have particular experience as a bereavement and loss counsellor. Years of experience counselling for a local Bereavement and Loss charity, I understand that grief can be experienced for a number of reasons, not only when we lose a loved one but when we lose anything that is important to us- the loss of a job, a relationship, a hope or a dream.

With experience as a school counsellor, I understand the current pressures upon young people and have particular experience working in the following areas: school refusal/ difficulties, self-harm and suicidal thoughts, eating disorders, OCD, bullying, cyber-bullying, anxiety and depression, academic pressures.

With 23 years' experience as a mum, I have a passion for counselling those who are struggling with the pressures that arise as a result of parenting children and young people in our society today. I have a particular heart for those who have been impacted by postnatal depression. As a result, I have extensive experience in this area and have journeyed alongside many parents who have made sense of their struggles through our sessions which has positively impacted their relationships with themselves, their partners and their children.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
