About me
Hi, my name is Sarah, and I thank you for considering whether I might be a good fit for you. For 25 years it has been my privilege that people have trusted me to help with their deepest hurts and biggest challenges.
I offer sessions on a short to long term contract, which we will agree on initially then review as we go. Together we will set an agenda and a goal to work towards. I will listen, support and guide, holding hope for your positive outcome, until you're able to do that for yourself.
There is a whole spectrum of different gender and sexual expressions and in my therapy and counselling services, I offer a safe and confidential place to those who are seeking to understand and be understood.
My collective experience informs me that for some clients racial, cultural, and other diversity factors may be central to the work, but for others these experiences may be peripheral or less relevant or central to the work in therapy.
My focus will be on your individual personality, developed psychologically, socially, and culturally through human relationships and experiences.
You may suffer from anxiety or depression; recovering from trauma or dealing with grief; trying to understand the impact of childhood events that are still impacting your day to day living. Make a positive move for yourself and invest in a therapeutic relationship that can help alleviate your symptoms and give you hope for positive change.
Training, qualifications & experience
In 1999 I completed a 4 year psychotherapy course in Transactional Analysis and then took further two years training in humanistic approaches. Since then I have also qualified as a trauma risk practitioner within a Police Force and completed a degree in reflective therapeutic practice. I have also worked in the intensive environment of NHS talking therapies (formerly IAPT).
I have worked with adults in the blue light sector (including those in high profile senior roles) and within a Cat B male prison, and latterly NHS Talking Therapies.
Alongside my private practice, I have held senior leadership positions in all those sectors, including roles to transform services, offering personal and professional growth opportunities for senior staff.
It has been my pleasure to provide training in Transactional analysis and trauma management consultancy to independent fostering organisations and to have served as a Foster Parent.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

We will then arrange an appointment when we can meet.
Our first session will be an assessment of whether we are a good fit. Do I have the skills and experience to help you? Do you feel comfortable with me to proceed & want to commit to the process of therapy. If after 20 minutes it is clear we are not going to proceed together I will not charge for this time - otherwise the assessment will take 50 minutes & I will charge my sessional rate.
The subsequent sessions usually takes place at a mutually agreed time.
I offer long-term, open-ended counselling, which allows a greater exploration of your issues at greater depth. Or, short-term, solution focussed counselling is available.
