About me

If you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stressed or depressed I can help. If these feelings don't apply to you please continue reading as I can help with a range of other issues too.  Often people just need a private space. The time to explore their thoughts and feelings. An opportunity to express themselves without being judged. I can provide a safe, welcoming environment where I can support you to work through your troubles which will enable you to make changes so that you can live and enjoy a more fulfilled life.

I am a qualified Gestalt Counsellor. Gestalt is a humanistic/existential therapy which focuses on our individual experiences and how we relate to others and our environment

How counselling can help

People can become stuck in fixed patterns and beliefs about themselves, their relationships and the world around them. My aim is to help you find new and more creative ways to resolve the problems you are facing.

The benefits of Gestalt counselling

  • Substantial increase in self-awareness and self-acceptance
  • Improved ability to live fully in the present moment
  • Improved communication skills
  • Better and more satisfying relationships with others
  • A greater understanding of your behaviours and the meaning you attach to them

Taking the first steps

Step 1: Get in touch with me either via email, phone or through my website.

Step 2: We can then arrange a free consultation, either face to face, on the phone or via an online video call, during this time we can talk about the problems you are facing, what you are hoping to get out of counselling and how I can best support you. This time gives you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

Step 3: If we decide to go ahead with counselling we will arrange our first session to suit you; I can offer evenings, weekends and daytime appointments. Generally, we will meet on the same day, at the same time, each week.

Step 4: We may work either short term for 6 -12 sessions, or longer term. Either way, we will consider your needs together and agree on your priorities and timescales.

What you can expect from our first counselling session

Initially  we will complete a client information and history from together, this is often a useful aid for you to begin your counselling journey as you start talking about events in your life. Once completed the time is yours to talk about what brings you to counselling.  At the end of the first session, I usually summarise what you have said and we can then decide a plan for further sessions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
