About me
I aim to offer a warm empathic space to hold you and your emotions whilst we explore whatever is bringing you to therapy at this time. For me, the relationship between a counsellor and the client is the most important aspect of therapeutic work, and so I offer a non judgemental readiness to work with you and the issue/s that you bring to each session.
I am an integrative person-centred counsellor. This means that I believe that we are not broken, damaged or wrong and need fixing, but that we have an innate desire to grow and heal ourselves. Sometimes we need support to do this. An integrative style of working means that I have a range of different tools and techniques that I employ to support you in this work - For example, we may use attachment theory when exploring relationship difficulties, or with Transactional Analysis when communication is difficult or you feel unheard, or stuck in repeated behaviours.
Alongside my private practice I work and volunteer as a counsellor and assessor at a Dorset charity supporting survivors of sexual trauma, childhood sexual abuse and domestic abuse. I am a trained and supported with working with trauma and complex PTSD and employ these skills within my private practice when required.
You may have a specific goal that you wish to work towards in a limited timeframe, or a more general sense of unease, unhappiness that may require longer term therapy. These can be discussed in your initial assessment session, where we can discuss your needs and if I feel qualified to help with them (if your problems are beyond my qualification or experience I will support you in finding an alternative therapist if needed).
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a qualified Integrative Therapist (Advanced Diploma) from Iron Mill College and have received specialist trauma training from Stars Dorset, where I continue to work and volunteer. I have worked with a wide variety of clients, including younger adults at Southampton Solent university, and clients from different cultural backgrounds.
My experience has included extensive working with CPTSD and neurodiversity and I aim to offer a fully inclusive and neuro- and gender affirming space to explore your experience of the world.
I am a registered member of the BACP and abide by their ethical framework as well as a member of the HACP.
I hold a BSc (Hons) Geography from LSE and a PGCE from Southampton University.
I continue to engage in further training and am looking to complete a Masters degree in Integrative Psychotherapy in the near future.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
