About me
Everyone feels anxious overwhelmed or troubled at some point in their lives. It may feel like this is a strange and new experience, or it may be all too familiar. You may know clearly what you want to address or you may have only a vague sense of what feels wrong. I have experience and expertise to offer, and a willingness to understand what is going on for you and what brings you to therapy. Together we can explore and make some sense of your experience and feelings, and find new and lasting ways forward.
I come from an integrative background, which means that I have a range of approaches to draw on, rather than fitting your experience into one way of thinking. Since qualifying in 2011, I have worked with adults of different ages, different sexualities and from a variety of social, cultural and religious backgrounds.
You have already taken the first step by finding the counselling directory and looking for a qualified therapist. The next step could be to pick up the phone, send me a text or an email and arrange a confidential, no commitment, face to face meeting with me. I will respond to your inquiry within 24 hours Monday to Friday.
Training, qualifications & experience
Since qualifying as a therapist I have worked for the NHS and Mind as well as in private practice.
I have an MA in psychology from Glasgow University, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and an MA in Psychotherapy from the Minster Centre, which is affiliated with Middlesex University, the BACP and UKCP. My registering body and membership is with the BACP, British Council for Counselling and Psychotherapy and I follow their ethical guidance. I also hold a Certificate in Group Work from the Institute of Group Analysis.
I don't ask for or use testimonials from therapy clients, but here are some examples of the feedback I received from participants of workshops I ran on Anxiety and Low Mood:
“very sympathetic and collaborative in her approach. She has also brought a sense of perspective to my thinking. She takes the trouble to understand people.”
“approachable, a great listener, reassuring, knowledgeable, positive.”
“successful in creating an environment where I felt relaxed and able to contribute to discussion. I’m also grateful to her for gently pushing me towards a more challenging goal than I would have chosen left to my own devices.”
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
